Malaga CF's Dani Lorenzo viral for accepting €50, shirt exchange

Former Real Madrid youth player Dani Lorenzo has become an internet sensation due to a viral video capturing his interaction with a fan.

Following Malaga CF's 1-0 victory over Atlético Madrid B in Majadahonda on Sunday (April 14), Lorenzo found himself in the spotlight for an exchange that showcased both the passion of football fans and the humility of players.

One supporter seized the opportunity to ask Lorenzo for his coveted match-worn shirt. However, Dani Lorenzo politely explained that he was unable to give his away due to the club's policies regarding the distribution of shirts.

Despite the initial refusal, the dedicated fan persisted and offered a meaningful gift that surprised everyone. Pulling out a 50-euro note from his pocket, the fan offered to buy Lorenzo's shirt. Taken aback but moved by the fan's genuineness, Lorenzo took the money and finished the trade.

The moment was captured by television cameras and subsequently shared on the popular sports program El Chiringuito.

Lorenzo took a moment to reflect on the incident after the game, providing insight into the realities faced by players outside the upper echelons of professional football. Expressing his surprise at the turn of events he remarked (via Tribuna):

"It happened so fast. Just so people understand, we're in Primera RFEF, I'm not a millionaire, I wish I were."

Regarding the club's policies, he said:

"We're given a limited number of shirts to give away, and I had already distributed mine. After that, the club charges us for additional shirts."

Despite his initial acceptance of the fan's offer, Lorenzo expressed a tinge of regret upon further reflection, as he admitted,

"Now, upon reflection, I realize I shouldn't have taken it, I did it with all the good faith in the world, and I hope people understand."

Dani Lorenzo's Impact Amidst Club's Resurgence

Former Real Madrid midfielder, Dani Lorenzo's recent contributions to Malaga CF have been instrumental in their quest for promotion, showcasing his talent and determination in Spain's third division.

Lorenzo's contribution of four goals and three assists in 30 matches, underscores his value to the team this season.

Malaga, who were quarter-finalists in the Champions League, are presently playing in Spain's third division. The club's relegation last season confirmed their return to that level for the first time since 1998.

The Spanish outfit could get promoted this season, however, since Sunday's victory puts them in the play-off spots with six games remaining.
