Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is likely to be sacked by Chelsea. The Manchester United legend stated that he has heard rumors from the club suggesting that the Argentine tactician is about to be relieved of his duties as the Blues manager.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand claimed that he had bad news for Pochettino. He said that Chelsea were planning to sack the manager, which could initiate a "managerial merry-go-round" as several top clubs could be on the lookout for a head coach.

"I reckon there will be a managerial merry-go-round. And from what I'm hearing about Pochettino, I'm not sure he's going to be there at Chelsea. The mutterings I'm hearing coming out, I don't know if it's going to end well there," Ferdinand said.

When asked if Chelsea's recent upturn in form, which has resulted in fans backing the Argentine, would be enough to save his job, Ferdinand added:

"But I don't think it's in their hands. It's the hierarchy and I think there could be a decision being made between those guys. I don't think he'll be there, if I was a betting man."

Chelsea finished sixth in the Premier League this season and were runners-up in the Carabao Cup. The Blues also made it to the semi-final of the FA Cup, where they lost to Manchester City.

Mauricio Pochettino not sure about Chelsea future

Pochettino spoke to the media on Sunday and claimed that he was not sure about his future at Stamford Bridge. However, he added that there was no scheduled meeting and said on Sky Sports:

"I don't know if that is going to happen or not. I don't have any idea about this. All I can tell you is on Friday night, Todd invited me for a dinner and it was a very nice dinner together. But I don't know about the rumours about the review. My staff tomorrow are flying for their holidays. I am going to stay in London for a few more days. My phone is going to be on."

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager was quizzed about the dinner, but the Chelsea manager was unwilling to divulge the details.

"I am not going to explain. It is only for you to know that I was with him. I'm not going to talk about this. If I invite you along, and you and me have dinner, it's not for bad things. I don't believe that."

The Blues have been linked with Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, who is also reportedly a target for Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester United.
