Nirmal Chettri: I always wanted to go on a trial to Europe

Dusseldorf - Nirmal Chettri

Indian international defender and IMG-Reliance contracted Nirmal Chettri will arrive later today in Germany for his trial at German 2.Bundesliga (second division) side Fortuna Dusseldorf and Nirmal is all geared-up for the trials at Fortuna, which is something he has worked towards all his life.

Here is what Nirmal said before he left India for Germany…

Are you ready for the trial by Fortuna Dusseldorf?

Yes I am ready. I have been looking forward to going on trial to Europe for some time now and finally this opportunity has come about. I am thankful to the club Fortuna Dusseldorf in giving me a chance to show myself to one of the best leagues in the world.

Did you do anything special or different in preparations for the trials in Germany?

I don’t think I have done anything different from what I always do, practice hard and hope for the best. The IMG-Reliance Camp was in Mumbai after which I played in the 2013 SAFF Cup for India in Kathmandu and since returning I have been keeping fit training with United Sikkim FC in my home state.

What does the opportunity of a trial at Fortuna Dusseldorf mean to you?

Its always been a dream for myself to give European football a shot. Irrespective of what happens in the trial this will be a big learning opportunity for me that’s all I can say. This might be the first time I will be going to Europe on trial but certainly not the last.

What do you want to achieve?

Going to the German League is not the easiest thing to do although it is just for a week so I will just try my best and keep you all posted.

Anything you would like to add?

I would like to thank Arunava Chaudhuri (whom I will thank in person hopefully in the coming days in Germany) who has made this trial possible and for IMG-R’s continuous support from day one. As I has said earlier there is definitely a plan in place for us and we hope for the best. Also a thank you to The Football Edge, my representatives for continuously being there in whatever I do.
