Pellegrini claims Aguero is right there on top along with Messi and Ronaldo

Aguero scored 5 goals against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has made a bold claim that his striker Sergio Aguero is the only player to be behind the likes of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, as per the reports on Goal. The Argentinian scored a 5-goal thriller against Newcastle United on Saturday at the Etihad Stadium.

Despite his lack of goals in the opening stages of this new campaign, Aguero made a remarkable comeback in the weekend by scoring five goals. The 27-year-old is the third player to have scored 5 goals this season among the top competitive leagues in Europe. Real Madrid’s Ronaldo and Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski are the other two players to join Aguero in the same category.

Pellegrini was left delighted at the end of the final whistle on Saturday as his team went on to reclaim their spot at the top of the table. The Chilean manager has admitted that his striker can reach the same heights as the multiple Ballon d’Or winners, provided his team continue to improve in the Premier League as well as in the Champions League.

"After what we have seen [against Newcastle] of course Kun [Aguero] is at that level," Pellegrini said.

"I have already said that, after Ronaldo and Messi, he is the best player in the world.”

"But the important thing - not only for Kun but as a team - is that we must continue to improve.”

"We need to win the Premier League again and to win the Champions League, because Messi and Ronaldo are always involved in that competition and that’s very important for a player.”

"I'm very happy for us that in Kun we have a very important player. He always makes important things in competitions."

Aguero would fit in well in any of the top clubs: Scholes

Paul Scholes made 718 appearances for the Red Devils during his footballing career

Former Manchester United player Paul Scholes also agrees with Pellegrini, as he has suggested that Aguero is the only Premier League player who would fit in well at Bayern Munich, Barcelona or Real Madrid.

"When you think about the quality of players we [English clubs] have, do you think any of the players at our top clubs now would get in the Barcelona team? I very much doubt it," Scholes said on BT Sport.

"They wouldn’t get in the Real Madrid team or the Bayern Munich team. Maybe Sergio Aguero is the exception."

Scholes’ former club suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday and this has seen changes in the league table. Manchester City has taken the lead at the top with 18 points while Arsenal and Manchester United are level on 16 points.
