Petr Cech going nowhere says Jose Mourinho

Petr Cech
?ech's moved to Chelsea for £7 million in 2004, becoming the most expensive goalkeeper in Chelsea's history.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has no intentions of parting ways with his long time colonel at the back, Petr Cech.

Papers have been ripe with rumours and gossips that the Czech Republic international might be allowed to move on after Chelsea decided to bring Tibaut Courtois finally to Stamford Bridge. However, this competition for places doesn’t seem to unsettle or faze the Chelsea manager. Mourinho in fact seems to be happy to see a jostle between the old guard and the upcoming youngster for the title of becoming the Chelsea no. 1.

Courtois comes to London after spending a reputation of a world beater during the last three seasons on loan to Atletico Madrid. The Belgian international is generally seen as the future at Chelsea after putting together some sterling displays during his stay at the Spanish capital.

The Belgian was the line of defence and orchestrator at the back for the miserly Los Colchoneros last season, which conceded only 26 goals last season. His outstanding performances between the posts for Atletico propelled them to a Europa League triumph in 2012, a Copa del Rey wins in 2013 and most recently to their first La Liga title in almost two decades.

It is generally perceived around the footballing circles that it will only be a matter of time before the Belgian international takes over the duties as Chelsea’s mainstay at the back.

Cech will have to compete for his place

Courtois’ route to the no. 1 spot will however not be an easy one as he faces the task of dislodging a 10 year servant of Chelsea and a brilliant one at that, in the form of Petr Cech. Cech, who has had near to 500 appearances for Chelsea is also a three-time winner of the Premier League golden glove award and also the winner of the Chelsea player of the year award in 2011.

Mourinho came out and didn’t mince his words about the current situation. The “special one” seemed to be content at having his fair share of options at the goalkeeping position.

Speaking after a pre-season draw with Austrian side RZ Pellets on Wednesday, the Portuguese manager said: “My situation for the season is fantastic.

“To have Cech and Courtois means we have the best young goalkeeper in the world and one of the top three or five most experienced keepers. For me and Chelsea, it’s perfect.

“Maybe one of them won’t be happy, but Chelsea supporters will be happy and they’re more important than the players.

“Of course, the window is the window, but I’m so happy with the situation.

“If we don’t have good players, we’re in trouble. I’m paid to make decisions and I’m really happy with my situation.”
