Petr Cech writes an open letter to Chelsea fans after move to Arsenal

In a move that everyone saw coming for a while, Chelsea legend Petr Cech joined Arsenal on a long-term contract. As usual, it was accompanied by the traditional social media announcements from both clubs and statements on their respective websites.

On his departure from Stamford Bridge which was his home for 11 years, Cech penned an open letter to Chelsea fans. In it, he explained his reasoning behind the transfer and thanks everyone who was involved in his time at Chelsea.

It is filled with reminiscent moments of glory with the club and he also thanked the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in particular. He ended it with a message to the Chelsea fans.

The 33-year-old signed for the Blues’ London rivals for an undisclosed fee that is rumoured to be in the region of £11 million.

Cech’s usually secure number 1 position at Chelsea was usurped last season by Thibaut Courtois as he returned from a long loan spell with Atletico Madrid in Spain. The lack of game time at the top level is what seems to have spurred the decision from the Czech shot-stopper.

The former Chelsea man will now be expected to take over first team goalkeeping duties ahead of both David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny.

The custodian is leaving behind at the club a legacy that is second to none. He has won a Champions League, 4 Premier League titles, 1 Europa League, 4 FA Cups, and 3 League Cups with the London club.
