Raheem Sterling’s relationship with Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool seems to have broken down

Raheem Sterling wants a move out of Liverpool because he does not want to play under manager Brendan Rodgers, according to Sky Sports. The England forward feels the complete impasse between him and Rodgers is the primary reason he wants to leave Liverpool.

Sterling did not report to Liverpool’s training session on Wednesday citing illness ahead of the club's pre-season tour of Malaysia, Thailand and Australia and has expressed his desire to leave the Reds during the transfer window. Should he not join the side on their pre-season tour, he will be contractually obliged to pay a £70,000 fine, according to The Mirror.

The 20-year-old feels he was not taken seriously when he asked the manager a move out of Anfield last campaign, and it is the sole reason behind his discontent. The player is willing to stay at the Merseyside club if Rodgers is not the man in charge, The Guardian reports.

The player is also upset over the news of the fallout being leaked to the media by the club and claims that the former Swansea boss has repeatedly broken promises to keep the conversations private. The Liverpool forward claims that on at least three occasions, the manager has broken the trust by openly discussing confidential contract details.

The English forward alleges that the Irishman employed PR tactics to disprove the rumours of the breakdown, by particularly coming close to him when the press photographers were allowed during the club's training session, so that they could be clicked together, Mirror reports. The club and manager have categorically denied such developments (Sky Sports).

Liverpool fans vent anger on Sterling

After making it very clear that Sterling wants to move on, the relationship between the fans and the player have turned sour. He was booed by the fans during Liverpool’s final match of the last season, a 6-1 defeat at the hands of Stoke City, and also during England’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland last month.

Now the anger has extended to his house in Merseyside. Around 2,000 abusive texts and 1,200 Whatsapp messages were sent on his phone after his number was posted online, according to The Mirror.

Sterling's actions are synonymous with other Premier League rebels which include Dwight Yorke (Aston Villa, 1998/99), Dimitar Berbatov (Tottenham, 2008/09), Nicolas Anelka (Arsenal, 1998/99) and Carlos Tevez (Manchester City, 2012/13) who employed similar tactics to force an exit from their respective clubs.

Manchester City unwilling to match Sterling’s valuation

Ever since, the 20-year old striker expressed his desire to move, City have been the front runners to land the skilful forward at Etihad (Dailymail). However, the Manchester side is unwilling to match the price tag set by Liverpool for the player, who value him at £50m, according to Guardian.

City had their two bids of around £35m and £40m rejected by the Reds in June previously.
