The 53-year-old Portuguese manager wants to reunite with the Brazilian international

Manchester United have allowed Louis van Gaal leave just days after he guided them to the FA Cup triumph following their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in the extra time. Jose Mourinho is set to replace the Dutchman in the coming days at Old Trafford and The Sun reports the former Inter Milan and Real Madrid manager wants to sign his former player Willian from Chelsea in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 53-year-old Portuguese manager wants to reunite with the Brazilian international, who was an outstanding player for Chelsea in the recently concluded season. Willian was one of the very few bright prospects as the Blues looked to defend their title in one of the most disappointing fashions.

Mourinho is an admirer of the South American footballer and he convinced him to snub Tottenham Hotspur and join the West London club three years ago. Willian had his medical at Spurs, only to be hijacked in the final moments as Chelsea signed him for £30m from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala.

The incoming Red Devils manager wants to bring Willian to Old Trafford and United are aware that only a bid of £60m will see them attract him to join the Premier League giants. The positive news for United is that even the player is also looking to link with his former manager at the new club.

Chelsea will not have European competition next season and they have confirmed that current Italy manager Antonio Conte will be taking over the managerial job at Stamford Bridge.

It will not be a good decision if Conte sanctions Willian's sale, especially to their direct rivals as both United and the Blues will be fighting for domestic silverware next campaign. The Red Devils, however, are in the Europa League as they lost the chance to make it to the Europe's elite club competition to local rivals Manchester City.

Willian excelled under Mourinho and he tracks back, which will be helpful when his team has to defend. This quality of the Brazilian could be vital for United, should he decides to leave Chelsea and move to the Manchester club in the summer transfer window.

His pace also could add more value to the team and Willian could be the type of player who fits Mourinho's style of play.
