A reunion on the cards?

Mario Gotze’s time at Bayern Munich looks to be coming to an end as reports of the midfielder wanting to leave become stronger. According to the Express Liverpool are confident of signing the World Cup winner this summer by taking advantage of Jurgen Klopp’s relationship with the player.

Gotze has indicated that he would like to work his former coach and Liverpool will look to use this fact to their advantage. Gotze was given his debut when he was at Borussia Dortmund by Klopp when he was only a teenager in 2009.

But the player repaid the faith shown by Klopp by playing a starring role in Dortmund's Bundesliga title wins in 2010-11 and 2011-12. The playmaker was asked by the Greman National team’s coach Joachim Loew to reconsider his move by talking to Carlo Ancelloti first before making a decision.

But his teammate Thomas Muller could understand why Gotze was frustrated saying,“I speak with Mario and think he is not 100 per cent satisfied with his situation at Bayern”. Gotze made the move from Dortmund to Bayern Munich in 2013. The move was announced prior to the UEFA Champions League final which was eventually won by the Bavarian giants.

But since his move Gotze has struggled for form and has failed to cement a regular starting berth at the club. Guardiola has not been completely convinced of Goeze’s position in the team and the player himself has had several injury problems.

Gotze suffered a hamstring injury in October which kept him out until the middle of February this year. But despite this, he has only started one game all season for Bayern and has only made a total of 8 appearances.

He has only one year remaining on his contract which runs out in 2017. This will enable Liverpool to negotiate a good deal for the player which is reported to be in the region of £15 to £20 million.

Gotze had earlier ruled out a move in the winter transfer window saying, “I can rule out a move to Liverpool this winter,I don't know where the rumours about Klopp and me are coming from. I have not heard anything. You should ask Klopp if he wants me at Liverpool. If he wants me, he should approach me.”

The 23-year-old played his best football while he was at Dortmund managed by Jurgen Klopp and the Liverpool manager would love to add the player who scored Germany’s winning World Cup goal to his ranks.

With the majority of his career still ahead of him this would prove to be a major coup if Liverpool can pull it off.
