Lionel Messi's 2nd goal should have been ruled out?

Argentina's 3rd goal, Lionel Messi's second, against France in the FIFA World Cup final should not have counted, per a French media report. The publication claims two substitutes were on the pitch before the PSG star had the ball in the back of the net.

According to a report published today by Le10Sport, referee Marciniak should have disallowed Messi's goal in extra time as Argentina had more players on the field. They believe that the officials made a mistake by not checking the footage on the grand stage.

The report does not indicate if the players on the pitch were near the corner flag or if substitutes on the bench made their way onto the pitch. However, none of the reported players interfered with the play, and the Polish official did not stop the game.

Lionel Messi plans to continue playing after FIFA World Cup glory

Lionel Messi has confirmed that he will continue playing for Argentina after the FIFA World Cup win. He claimed that he wants to take the pitch as a world champion and was emotional after sealing the win.

Speaking to the media after the final, the Argentina captain said:

"It's the best thing there is [World Cup trophy]. Look how cute it is. This was the trophy I wanted all my life. This was my dream from childhood. I knew that God was going to give it to me, I had a feeling that this was mine. We can't wait to be in Argentina to see how crazy the celebrations is going to be."

When quizzed about his retirement, he added:

"No, I'm not gonna retire from the national team. I want to keep playing as World Cup champions with (the) Argentina shirt."

Lionel Scaloni is happy to have the PSG star in his squad and has admitted that he would be more than happy to see him make the squad for the 2026 World Cup.

The Argentina manager said:

"Messi should have a place in the next World Cup, we want him to continue. If he wants to keep playing, the '10' will always be ready for Lionel."
