Brentford FC striker Ivan Toney

Arsenal and Chelsea target Ivan Toney is reportedly demanding £250,000 per week for a move to Manchester United, according to The Sun.

Should such a deal go through, the Bees striker would become the highest earner at Old Trafford. Currently, the Red Devils are relying on young forward Rasmus Hojlund, who has bagged seven Premier League goals in 24 appearances.

An experienced striker would certainly take some pressure off the shoulders of the Denmark international. However, Toney's demands may make the club's management rethink their interest in the player.

So far this season, the England international has made 13 league appearances, bagging four goals and an assist for Brentford. With him entering the final year of his contract with his current employers, the Bees will be looking to secure as much as possible for their star man.

A move to either of the aforementioned sides would be a step in the right direction as far as the 28-year-old's career is concerned. Currently, Arsenal are challenging for the Premier League title, while Manchester United and Chelsea are widely considered some of the biggest clubs in England.

The Gunners are in need of a focal point, with Gabriel Jesus failing to make a mark this season, having struck just four league goals. Mauricio Pochettino has similar worries at Stamford Bridge with Nicolas Jackson.

Overall, Toney has played 137 matches across competitions for Brentford, bagging 72 goals and 22 assists across competitions.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is of the opinion that the club could do with signing a striker in the summer transfer window. While Rasmus Hojlund continues to settle into life in the Premier League, Anthony Martial has scored just once in the 13 league matches.

As Ten Hag looks for solutions to his team's goalscoring worries, he's had to use Marcus Rashford in a central role at times. When asked if the Red Devils need to sign a striker in the summer, the Dutch coach told The Athletic:

"I think it would help. As I always had in this plan we constructed that we should have had enough goals."

Manchester United have scored just 47 goals, which is the fewest for the top 10 Premier League teams. Currently, the Red Devils are seventh in the league standings, 13 points behind fourth-placed Aston Villa.
