Torres: "If a goal is scored, I will not celebrate it"

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, has revealed that he will not celebrate if he scores against his boyhood club Athletico Madrid.

He joined the club at the age of 11 and spent 12 years there before he joined Liverpool in 2007.

If a goal is scored I will not celebrate it. It couldn’t be more special. Their fans know I was one of them. I spent 12 years of my life there.” he told reporters. He captained Athletico at the age of 19 and was prolific scorer for them, netting 65 goals in 102 appearances.

He also said that he never felt the weight of the 50 million price tag. After joining Chelsea, Fernando went 24 games without scoring but ended the last campaign in form by scoring against Barcelona and winning the Euro 2012 golden boot.

The money never was a problem,” Torres said. “The money Chelsea paid for me was never something I was worried about or made me play badly – it’s nothing about that.“It was a difficult change for me, from Liverpool to Chelsea; the adaptation took more time than it should [have] but all these things are part of the past now.“All these things make you stronger and a better player and person. I’ve been in situations that I’ve never been before and that can help me a lot for the present and the future.”

Fernando Torres, is a role model to many as he is a perfect example of a person who never gives up and keeps on persevering. He confirmed that he had no regrets of joining the club and he wants to win everything possible.

I’d change nothing if I could go back,” he continued. “I’d change nothing that happened to me last season. It taught me a lot of things. Right now I exactly know my position in this club, what I have to do, and I learned a lot of things last season, both good and bad. I’m a better player, a better person and I’m stronger than ever. I have never said anything bad about Chelsea. I never could because I know they made a big effort to buy me and I have still four more years [of my] contract. I have a lot of things to do at this club. In these four years I want to win everything I haven’t won. I never wanted to give up – and I never did.”

Radamel Falcao on the other hand, hailed Torres as one of the best strikers in the world.

“Torres is a great striker, one of the best in the world. He has scored some fine goals in his most recent games. I admire him for all that he has done for football. He is a player I have been keeping tabs on throughout my career.”

He also added that the Spanish club were not scared of the European Champions .

“Chelsea are a great team and you have to respect them. However, we do not fear them. They have some excellent players who could make the difference, but we have to focus on our own performance. We have the quality to cause them all kinds of problems.”
