Atletico Madrid finished their La Liga campaign as champions of Spain, a feat that they have achieved for the first time since 1996 as they managed to escape defeat after their tie with Barcelona ended in a 1-1 draw. Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez was the first player to get his name on the scoresheet, however, Diego Godin soon came up with an equaliser.
With the draw, Atletico Madrid finished on pole position with 90 points, three points more than runner-ups Barcelona.
