Jose Mourinho spoke about his decision to join Chelsea back.

Jose Mourinho’s come back to Chelsea last season was not surprising since it was at this club where he found his ground after all. Speaking to Yahoo-Eurosport in an interview, the Portuguese manager explained the reason behind his comeback.

“Because I went around Europe, I had experiences in four different countries,” Mourinho said. “After that I was in conditions to say, where do I like most? Where do I prefer to stay? And I had the chance to choose where I want to work, so for me it was easy to make the decision about England.”

Mourinho had led Chelsea to their first Premier League title in 50 years in his very first season with a record 95 points and was successful in retaining it the second year in the running. However, following a rift with club owner Roman Abramovich, Mourinho had left Chelsea to move onto Inter Milan and then Real Madrid.

Why Chelsea?

“After that, Chelsea. Why Chelsea? Exactly because it was a different project. Because when I came here in 2004 we built a team that was a Chelsea team for about eight, nine years. But eight, nine years in football is an eternity. In eight, nine years people finish careers.”

“Eight, nine years everything changes and that Chelsea era ended. So Chelsea needed to rebuild again, to make another team, to spend a few years building another team to try and have the same kind of success Chelsea had in the last decade.”

“So they invited me for that. I understood clearly the ideas of the owner and the board. It was also a new face for me after Italy and Spain, and England to be back was good for me so I made the decision.”

“I accepted the project and now I am in the second season. My contract is for four seasons, I’m in the second season and let’s see in the second season if we can start winning things. If we do that great, if we don’t the project is for four years, but let’s see if we can start winning before.”
