Video: Mats Hummels makes FIFA-esque clearance vs Hoffenheim

Mats Hummels

Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels produced a brilliant headed clearance during a free-kick routine from Hoffenheim to help his side get 3 vital points enabling them to get out of the dreaded relegation zone in the Bundesliga.

The World Cup winner showed incredible presence of mind to leave the wall and head the ball, meant for the vacant corner, away. Dortmund were bottom of the table before the match at the SIgnal Iduna Park with just 3 wins in 13 games.

The victory lifts the 2012 UEFA Champions League finalists to 14th place.

Another angle of the replay shows that goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller was rooted to his spot and probably wouldn’t have saved it. After the game, the former Bayern Munich defender pointed out at the importance of the win.

"It was a very important victory," he said. "We played a very good game."
