Usain Bolt attempts the Dizzy Goals Challenge – does he succeed?

The whole world is currently revolving around Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt as he became the centre of attention when he won gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay at the recently concluded 15th IAAF World Championships in Beijing. But when the fastest man in the world took the Dizzy Goals challenge, it was he who felt his world go round and round – literally!

The Dizzy Goals campaign is one started by Global Goals that asks famous sportspersons and celebrities take part. There are certain rules for the challenge. You first need two footballs kept 6m apart and a goal. The person doing the challenge then needs to run quickly around a ball 13 times and then kick the other ball into the goal. If they miss, they need to say, “I missed my goal so that world leaders don’t miss theirs.” And if they score, they must say, “If I can score a dizzy penalty then together we can all score The Global Goals.”

Many others like Real Madrid and Wales forward Gareth Bale have tried it, Arsenal stars Theo Walcott and Mikel Arteta have attempted it (as did the club mascot Gunnersaurus with a little help from manager Arsene Wenger) and so has Bollywood star Akshay Kumar.

Bolt shows us the dangers of running too fast around a stationary object as he quickly ran around the ball. He was already dizzy even before he finished 13 rounds, stumbling as soon as he reached 10! Ultimately he manages to make his way to the ball, but does he score? Watch the video and find out!

After the attempt, he was lying spread-eagled on the ground and smiling, saying: “Oh, I can’t get up!”

He was then asked, “How easy was that?” as he slowly got to his feet and stood up unassisted. “That was not easy!” he exclaimed as he laughed it off while recovering from the challenge.
