Mesut Ozil leads the assists chart with 15 this season in the Premier League

Several Premier League footballers were asked what present they would like for Christmas, but on one condition. The gift they wish for should cost nothing. Arsenal midfield maestro Mesut Ozil, who has been is mesmerizing form this season asked for two things. World peace was the first set of words uttered by the German and other precious present he wanted was a winter break!

The 27-year-old playmaker has overwhelmed the English Premier League with his defence-splitting passes and impeccable game reading abilities. He has been the Santa Claus for several Arsenal goalscorers and is helping the Gunners stay in the hunt for the Premier League title which has dodged them for 11 years now.

The German now has a total of 15 League assists so far this season, which is just five less than the Premier League record of 20 assists held by Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.The midfielder has now scored or assisted a goal in 11 consecutive Premier League matches. He has also made an assist against all the teams currently in the top six of the Premier League.

Ozil recently overtook Lionel Messi as the footballer with the highest number of assists since in Europe since August 2008 with 101 assists. Messi has 100. With several first-team players injured, including the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere, Danny Welbeck, Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky, Ozil’s form is the central driving force for Arsenal this season.

Arsenal will travel to St. Mary's Stadium to face Southampton on Boxing Day. The Gunners would like to end 2015 with a good note. The North-London club has had a great 2015, clinching more Premier League points than any other club. After defeating Manchester City 2-1 they are well on course for the title. Three points against Southampton will take them closer to Leicester City at the top.
