Gerrard and Lampard shared a sparking rivalry at club level

Leicester City center-half, Wes Morgan, is of the opinion that former Liverpool midfielder, Steven Gerrard, was better than Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, during the period when both of these midfielders were at their best.

While the debate of the better player between Lionel Messi and Cristiano seems like a never ending one, there is another comparison battle of its own kind in England as well: Steven Gerrard v/s Frank Lampard.

The English duo might have been teammates while playing for their country, but shared a sparking rivalry at club level as the fans of each team considered their star as the superior one. However, according to Wes Morgan, Gerrard was the better player as he, at his best, had the ability to carry his team all by himself.

"I've had this debate many times with my mates, [and I pick] Steven Gerrard. He would just score goals when you need it. He can be a one-man team on his day, so yes, for me, I am a Gerrard fan."

The Jamaican international’s opinion was also seconded by Watford’s Christian Kabasele as he believes that the Liverpool legend’s ability to score from long range gives him the edge over his compatriot.

"Steven Gerrard because he can score from long-distance shots and that is very important when the game is close and it is difficult to create chances," he said.

Both Frank Lampard and Steve Gerrard have had illustrious careers, with Lampard’s team accolades slightly eclipsing that of Gerrard’s. While the former West Ham man’s speciality was to make frequent seemingly-invisible runs inside the box and score goals, Gerrard was more of a controller in midfield who could make inch-perfect tackles as well as defense-splitting passes at his finest hour.

While Frank Lampard has won every possible trophy in his club career, Steven Gerrard was unfortunate to miss out on the Premier League title. And it seems as though he was never really destined to win at as the last time Liverpool were the closest to being the champions, it was he who slipped against Chelsea while receiving a pass, a haunting moment that allowed Demba Ba to score and give the London club the lead and Reds out of the title race.

Despite creating so many magical moments with the Merseyside club, the former captain is perhaps more remembered for this mistake than those glorious moments of joy that his feet provided.
