Xabi Alonso has revealed why he was convinced about leaving Real Madrid and joining Bayern Munich this season. The former Spain midfielder left Santiago Bernabeu for the Allianz Arena this summer transfer window after Toni Kroos was signed by the Blancos.

Since his transfer, Alonso has established himself as a regular starter in the team as Pep Guardiola has deployed him the former Real Madrid man in the heart of his midfield. In an exclusive interview with Sport Bid, the former Liverpool midfielder discussed some of the reasons that made him move to Germany.

“There were several things: the crowds, the atmosphere on the pitch, the stadiums, which are very exciting, and the chance to win a third Champions League with three different teams.

“And I’ve been surprised that the fans can go and watch us train. I didn’t see this at Liverpool or Real Madrid.” he said.

“There is no laughter as they respect our work and know we need peace of mind, which is something worth mentioning.”

Alonso also added that he is also looking forward to playing alongside World Cup winner Bastian Schweinsteiger, who had been sidelined due to injury since his arrival.

“I want to win a lot and we need a good balance with him in midfield for the whole team to function,” he explained his anticipation of the German to be back in the team.

Xabi Alonso has made a blistering start to life at Bayern Munich, having already broken Bayern team-mate Thiago Alcantara’s most touches record in Bundesliga. He had 206 touches on the ball in the match against Cologne bettering Alcantara’s 177 which was set last season.
