Zinedine Zidane uncomfortable with talk of Real Madrid as La Liga title favourites

Zidane’s Real Madrid have won 7 La Liga matches consecutively

Zidane spoke about the thrilling La Liga title race saying that his team had a chance to win both the La Liga and Champions League. The Frenchman, however, warned the supporters that it would be an uphill task.

"It's being said that we are going to win everything, and I don't like it at all. We haven't won any title at all yet," Zidane said ahead of Wednesday's contest against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"We are capable of winning both titles, but it doesn't mean anything. We will fight until the last minute and I assure you we will work until the end.

"I think that Barcelona and Atletico can win every game. If we win every game, but Barcelona do it too, we won't be the champions.

"I have always said that we must first move ahead of Atletico. They [Barca] are now tied with Atletico."

Zidane was not interested in speaking about Barcelona’s slump choosing instead to focus on his own team.

"I'm not thinking about that. I think more about what we have to do," he said.

"There are always difficult moments in the season, but that does not mean anything because they are still first. We must continue with the belief we can do something.

"I do not know when I changed my perception [on the title race], but when we lost to Atleti that day it became more complicated."

Zidane not taking Manchester City lightly

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane expects a tough Champions League semi-final football clash with Manchester City.

Manchester City was considered to be the most accessible of the three possible rivals Madrid could face with the other semi pairing of Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich. Zidane's side have been favoured for having the second leg at their home ground, the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, reports Xinhua.

It is the sixth consecutive time that Madrid have had the return leg at home, but Zidane didn't want to speak about the luck of the draw.

"It is a semi-final and it will be a very very difficult game. The only positive thing about it is that we have the return in the Bernabeu," he said, brushing aside words from Manchester City sporting director, Txiki Beguristein that Madrid were favourites to reach the final.

"Everyone will say we are favourites, but we know how hard City are and we will prepare our best to face them," he said.
