Golf: Anirban Lahiri stages dramatic comeback to win Malaysian Open

Lahiri wins his maiden European Tour event

An early set of birdies on the last day of the Maybank Malaysian Open, saw Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri snatch a dramatic victory from the hands of Bernd Wiesberger. He finished with a score of 16 under par. Lahiri has previously won five times on the Asian Tour, but this would be his maiden victory at the European tour.

After the second round, Lahiri was nine shots behind in 21st place. However, a resurgent third round saw him register a course record of 62.

Wiesberger had a two shot lead heading into the last day, but squandered the lead to Lahiri in a dramatic last few holes. This will be the 10th time, Wiesberger would finish in the top ten without securing a first placed finish.
