Foods that women should necessarily include in their diet

Here are some of the foods that women must necessarily incorporate in their diet:

1. Milk/curd: Low fat variants of milk and curds are important for every woman for healthy bones and teeth as they are a rich source of calcium, vitamin B12 and riboflavin. Especially for women above 30, 1 glass of milk and 1 cup of curd per day is a must to prevent osteoporosis in the later years. They are also a good source of protein, which is required for weight maintenance.

2. Dark green leafy vegetables like spinach are required by women of every age as they are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C and most importantly iron which is required by menstruating women to prevent anaemia.

3. Dried fruits like apricots, prunes, etc. are also a rich source of iron.

4. Fish/flaxseeds: Both of these are rich in omega-3 fatty acids which helps reduce cholesterol, blood pressure and improve overall health. They can also reduce depression and prevent mood swings.

5. Cranberries: These are extremely rich in antioxidants and prevent the risk of breast cancer and heart disease. They are known to prevent and cure urinary tract infections which occur more often in women than men. One glass of natural cranberry juice a day is great for a woman’s health.

6. Figs: Figs are a great source of iron and calcium making them a necessary food for young women prone to iron deficiency and post-menopausal women prone to osteoporosis.

7. Walnuts: They are an excellent source of good fats which prevent heart problems and help reduce high cholesterol levels. They are also a good source of omega 3 fatty acids adding to a woman’s health and wellness.
