Strawweight Muay Thai fighter Freddie Haggerty stepped out of his lane last time around to flyweight. He said he felt fine with it and hardly saw any difference.

The 20-year-old Knowlesy Academy/Team Underground affiliate competed in the 135-lb division in his last match in January at ONE 170. He took on fellow rising star Jordan Estupinan in a three-round showdown.

While Haggerty went on to lose by unanimous decision, the foray into flyweight, he said, was not really too much of a stretch for him.

He told the South China Morning Post in a recent interview:

"I felt good. I always feel good at strawweight anyway. So going up to flyweight, I'm never really deflated or anything at strawweight, so going up to flyweight was just a bigger version of myself."

Prior to competing in flyweight in his last match, Freddie Haggerty opened his ONE Championship campaign at strawweight, winning all three of his matches by way of knockout.

Freddie Haggerty proud of his performance in last match despite loss

Although he lost his last match, Freddie Haggerty was nonetheless proud of his performance, believing that he gave his all throughout the contest.

He moved to highlight it in the same interview with the South China Morning Post as he recalled what went down in his flyweight Muay Thai showdown against Jordan Estupinan in January.

The younger brother of ONE bantamweight kickboxing world champion Jonathan Haggerty said:

"I know how tough I am and what I can take and stuff. So, I really showed my heart and how badly I wanted it."

Against Estupinan, Freddie Haggerty battled hard. He got knocked down twice in the second round, but he continued to bring it on and took the match to the full route.

He is now waiting for his next match to be announced officially, saying it will be at strawweight against an opponent who is undefeated in ONE Championship so far.
