A wild stat shows how underpaid Brock Purdy is

Brock Purdy has been a surprise story in the NFL. Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant as the last pick in the 2022 NFL draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He was expected to be the third-stringer behind Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo last season. But, due to injuries, Purdy started five games and went 5-0. He also helped lead the 49ers to the NFC championship game but was hurt early in the matchup.

However, Brock Purdy showed enough to be San Francisco's starting quarterback this season and has already helped lead the 49ers to a 3-0 record.

On Thursday, Purdy and San Francisco beat the New York Giants 30-12. After the game, Spotrac sent out an interesting tweet that revealed Al Michaels made more money to call the 49ers-Giants game than Purdy will make all season.

"Al Michaels earned more (roughly $1M) to call last night's game than Brock Purdy ($870,000) will earn the entire 2023 season."

NFL rookie contracts are strapped to a maximum, and given Purdy was the last pick in the draft, he signed a four-year deal worth $3,737,008 over the course of the contract. However, if Purdy continues to be San Francisco's starting quarterback, he will no doubt start to make well over 10 million a season.

What is Brock Purdy's record as a starter after Week 3's TNF showdown vs. Giants?

After Brock Purdy led the San Francisco 49ers to a 30-12 rout over the New York Giants, the second-year quarterback is 8-0 as a starter in the regular season and 2-1 as a starter in the playoffs.

However, the lone game he lost was when he was playing injured and San Francisco almost had to play running back Christian McCaffery at quarterback (as Josh Johnson was also knocked out of the game).

In his first start, Purdy led the 49ers to a 35–7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With the win, he became the only quarterback in his first career start to beat a team led by Tom Brady.

Where did Brock Purdy go to college?

Purdy went to Iowa State and spent four years there. As a true freshman in 2018, Purdy played in 10 games, starting eight and going 6-2 as the starter. In his college career, Purdy started 46 games, going 29-17.

Purdy finished his college career going 993-for-1,467 for 12,170 yards, 81 touchdowns and 33 interceptions. He had a winning record in every season as Iowa State's quarterback.
