Dale Steyn Biography

Dale Willem Steyn is a South African cricketer who plays Test and one-day international cricket for South Africa. Steyn plays domestic cricket in South Africa for Cape Cobras. He is a right-arm fast bowler, and bowls at speeds of around 145–150 km/h. Dale Steyn holds the record for the fastest South African to reach 100 wickets in Test Match cricket, a feat he achieved on 2 March 2008. He is currently the number one ranked Test bowler in the world and has been for the past three years, achieving the 900+ points benchmark on 13 November 2011. Steyn also currently has the third best bowling strike rate of all time in Test match cricket. Steyn made his first-class debut for Northerns (now referred to as the Titans) on 17 October 2003. He went to England in 2005 to play for Essex, appearing in seven matches between May and June. On his return to domestic cricket in South Africa, Steyn bowled excellently for the Titans through the 2005/2006 season which earned him a recall to the Test squad to face New Zealand. Steyn signed to play in the Indian Premier League in 2008, playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. He earned US$325,000 for his appearance in the tournament. For IPL 2011 he was bought by Deccan Chargers for $1.2 million. He was awarded the man of the match in the against Mumbai Indians even though Deccan Chargers lost the match. In international cricket, Dale Steyn made his debut for South Africa on 17 December 2004 in the first Test of England's tour.
