5 reasons why England will win the World Cup

Broad & Anderson are most experienced bowlers for England

A brand new captain, lots of youngsters making debut and bit of unsteadiness hit England team badly in recent times. After defeat against Australia in opening game a thought of England winning the World Cup might be quixotic. But England havefought hard to build a strong team as they enter in World Cup. The glimpses of talent in their camp were seen in tri series. Though they lost to Australia in final, they put a strong impression throughout the series. Here are the reasons underlying Englands chances of ending up as winners in World Cup 2015:

#1 Strong bowling attack

Broad & Anderson are most experienced bowlers for England

Bowling perhaps is the strongest point for England in this World Cup. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that they have got the best bowling line up amongst all teams.

Certainly, there are teams like South Africa, Australia and New Zealand who have got prolific, top class bowlers but there is something unique about England’s bowling combination.

They have got Anderson, a connoisseur of swing bowling equally supported by young Chris Woakes who showed his skills in tri-series. Stuart Broad, yet another arsenal in England’s bowling has returned from injury and he is looking fresh. Steven Finn, their most successful bowler in 1st game of World Cup completes the bowling quadruple.

Both Broad and Finn will produce tremendous pace and bounce on the grounds in Australia & New Zealand. The spin department certainly isn’t the strongest but if England can get 40 overs of quality fast bowling then they won’t have to worry much about spin. Though Moeen Ali and Root are capable of keeping batsmen at bay.

#2 Underdogs - They can work under the radar

England.....Who?

Everyone is talking about India’s batting line-up, about Johnson and Starc destroying opposition, about New Zealand winning it in their own backyard and also about South Africa’s best chances of winning the World Cup. The commonly neglected thing here is England!

Apart from few of their loyal supporters, no one else is counting them in. Such situation is always good for a team to progress ahead in big tournaments. If we look at some past winners, then it can be seen that teams like India (1983), Australia (1987), Pakistan and Sri Lanka were nowhere in the race when tournament began. Likewise, England have very less pressure due to which they will be little carefree in World Cup. Like other top teams, they are certainly going to make it to knockouts. They can surely be the surprise package in the knock outs for other teams.

#3 Flamboyant captain and vice-captain

Eoin Morgan can turn it around for England

Eoin Morgan was handed the captaincy at crucial time just before the World Cup. Though he hasn’t been scoring runs with bat, he has got one of the smartest cricketing brains. We have seen his extemporaneous shots in past. Similarly he has a lot to offer as captain.

He captained England for 1st time in recently concluded tri-series. England reached the final beating India and gave tough competition to Australia. The two teams they played against are top favorites to win the World Cup. Morgan has already been a seasoned campaigner as he has played for KKR & Sydney Thunders for a long time now.

He has the experience of playing on Australian pitches during his BBL stint. Butler too has been rewarded with vice-captaincy for his heroics in past few months. Both these men aren’t going to hold back from playing audacious cricket.

#4 Balanced batting unit

England’s young batsmen can adapt to any situation quickly

When the World Cup was just around the corner, England successfully found the perfect opening combination. Bell began his World Cup campaign with a massive 187 against Prime Minister’s XI. Moeen Ali has been displaying his stroke play giving early momentum to England. Apart from these two, Alex Hales-the reserved opener has capability to take on the opposition bowling.

England are having very young yet solid middle order, save for some bad shots which they played against Australia. Balance, Root and James Taylor aren’t novices anymore. They have already put up some redoubtable performance with bat showing alacrity to score runs. They have potential to hang in there and stabilize the innings. It gives lots of freedom to openers as they can take their chances without worrying much about a collapse.

Morgan, Butler and Bopara will be playing finisher’s roles. All 3 of them know their role pretty well. They are capable of hitting some big ones and playing unorthodox shots. These 3 can rattle any bowling attack once they get going. This batting unit along with refulgent bowlers completes a perfect team. A cogent team that has everything to win a big tournament like world cup.

#5 The taste of defeat from past

England Eoin Morgan

Last summer was nothing less than a horror movie for Englishmen. They were outplayed by the Aussies in all departments. England will be looking forward to World Cup as their chance to retrieve the glory. They have come close to winning the World Cup on many occasions but haven’t won it once yet. The only way to heal the memories from past is by winning a the elusive trophy at a place where they got humiliated last summer. They made every possible mistake last time, due to which, now, they are clear of the things to avoid in order to be victorious.
