Players who will be unhappy after the India squad announcement

Binny has been left out of both squads for the Australia tour

The much awaited announcement of India’s ODI and T20I squads for the tour to Australia was made this Saturday and it would not be wrong to say that it surprised many. The surprise element relates not only to some of the inclusions but has also got to do with a few players who have been left out.Talking from the perspective of the players, those included are surely elated to be part of the Indian team, while most members of the excluded lot are bound to be quite disgruntled at the turn of events. Here we focus on the players who are bound to be unhappy with the team announcement:

#5 Stuart Binny

Binny has been left out of both squads for the Australia tour

Stuart Binny may never have been a regular in the Indian playing XI, but he has been part of the squads in all 3 formats for quite some time. So the fact that he has been removed from the team in both ODIs and T20Is may not go down too well with the Karnataka allrounder.

His reason can be the lack of opportunities he was provided to prove himself on the international scene. But apart from his career best figures of 6 for 4, which happen to be the best for an Indian ODI bowler, he has not done much of note in the limited chances he got.

Binny would be better off returning to the domestic fold and coming back strongly from there.

#4 Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was dropped from the ODI team

Although Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been a regular member of the ODI squad for the past couple of years, he definitely has not had a great time with the ball in the recent past. This is earmarked by the fact that he gave away 106 runs in the last ODI that he played.

He may have been retained for the T20I team, but Bhuvneshwar may not be very happy about losing his place in the ODI side considering that most of his best performances have been in the 50-over format. However, he still has room for making a comeback if he comes good in the T20I matches in Australia

#3 Ambati Rayudu

Rayudu must be wondering what he has done wrong

Ambati Rayudu has always been known to put his best effort into whatever he does. Unfortunately, it never seems to be enough for him to impress the national selectors. Rayudu has performed quite decently in the limited opportunities that he has got in the ODI format.

The recent announcement for India’s squad for the tour to Australia sees Ambati Rayudu out of both the ODI and the T20I team. Although he has not done much of note in the 3 T20Is that he has played, he does have a healthy ODI average of 45 plus and could still have been a good batting alternative in the squad.

However, it is time that the 30-year-old batsman gets back to the drawing board once again.

#2 Amit Mishra

The selectors have been quick to show Mishra the door

After being shown the way out of both the ODI and T20I squads for the Australia tour, leg spinner Amit Mishra is going to be aggrieved with the team selection. After all, he had done a pretty decent job in the ODI series against South Africa where most Indian bowlers struggled.

Moreover, he did not even get a chance to prove himself in the T20 format before being removed from the squad. Mishra performed superbly in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Haryana grabbing 12 wickets from 6 games including a hattrick, however, his exploits seem to have been ignored by the selectors.

At the age of 33, Amit Mishra’s chances of making a comeback to limited-overs cricket may be slender. It would be best for him to now concentrate on the longest format of the game, where he is still part of the team.

#1 Suresh Raina

It is difficult to remember when Raina was last dropped from the ODI team

Despite still being part of the T20I team, Suresh Raina is surely going to be upset on being dropped from India’s ODI team. Raina has been one of the most regular faces in the Indian ODI team for years alongside the likes of Dhoni and Kohli and is known to be his skipper’s most trustworthy soldier.

However, one must admit that the southpaw had it coming due to his failure to be consistent as a batsman. Raina had a decent World Cup this year but suffered a dip in form in the home series against South Africa where he scored just 68 runs in 5 matches.

Looking at it from a positive angle, though, good returns in the T20I matches may help him find his way back into the ODI team in the future.
