There shouldn’t be any doubt left that Southampton have managed to cope up with their mass exodus of players leaving the club in the best manner possible. Despite the transfers of Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Callum Chambers any many other players, Ronald Koeman has managed to sign nine players, and still make a profit of

Players who have left the club: 14 including players on loan

Southampton received over €100m from the sale of Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Callum Chambers. The club has been criticised in various quarters for having a selling club mentality, and showing lack of ambition.

Calum Chambers (€38m), Danny Welbeck (€38m), Alexis Sanchez (€38m), David Ospina (€38m) and Mathieu Debuchy (€15m).

Arsenal had a sub-standard transfer window, mainly because of the fact that they failed to sign a world class striker. Danny Welbeck’s signing came right before the deadline ended, and even though you could call his transfer crucial, it was somewhat more of a panic buy. Arsene Wenger was still successful in signing Alexis Sanchez, David Ospina, Callum Chambers and Matheiu Debuchy early on, which was a relief for the Gunners.

Received: £31.8m (€40.1m)

Players who have left the club: 11

The biggest name to leave the Red and White army has to be their former skipper Thomas Vermaelen who completed his move to Barcelona last month. The Gunners are yet to sign a replacement for him. In addition, Niklas Bendtner and Bacary Sagna were allowed to move to Wolfsburg and Manchester City for free. Overall, a not so good transfer window for Arsene Wenger and his army.

#3 Chelsea: 87.7m

Diego Costa (€38m), Cesc Fabregas (€33m), Filipe Luis (€20m), Loic Remy (€13.2m), Mario Pasalic (€2.5m) and Didier Drogba (Free).

Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea has been bolstered with the addition of players such as Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Filipe Luis from La Liga, and are held as favourites to win the Premier League this year. However, it is worth mentioning that the Chelsea have still managed to make a profit despite signing a total of seven players this season.

Received: £88.5m (€111m)

Players who have left the club: More than 22 players

Chelsea recouped the money they had spent in the transfer window with the £80m they had received from the transfers of David Luiz and Romelu Lukaku. This transfer window also saw veterans like Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole leave the club, both as free agents after being loyal servants for several years.

Adam Lallana (€31m), Dejan Loven (€25.3m), Lazar Markovic (€25m), Mario Balotelli (€20m), Alberto Moreno (€18m), Divock Origi (€12.63m), Emre Can (€12m), Rickie Lambert (€5.5m) and Javier Manquillo (€2m loan fee).

Liverpool were one of the most active clubs during the transfer window, signing a total of 9 players by spilling out around £116.8m with most of the money recouped from the transfer of Luis Suarez to Barcelona for €81m. With the addition of players like Adam Lallana and Mario Balotelli, the team looks much stronger than before as they head into their first Champions League campaign in five years.

Players who have left the club: 20

#1 Manchester United: 153.1m

Spent: £153.1m (€193m)

Players bought: 7

Marcos Rojo (€12m), Luke Shaw (€22m), Daley Blind (€12m), Ander Herrera (€27m), Angel Di Maria (€50m) and Radamel Falcao (€6m loan fee, €55m future fee).

Manchester United were the biggest spenders in the country, sweating over £153.1m throughout the long summer transfer window. Under the supervision of vice-chairman Ed Woodward, the Red Devils pushed their limits in this window, buying some of the top foreign talents after not so much of a fruitful season under David Moyes. Now, these buys are not exactly panic buys. The club had the money to spend, and a change of transfer policy was imminent.

This massive spending frenzy comes after perhaps eight years of recouping money and understanding how the new transfer rules apply to clubs. The signing of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera were somewhat usual, something you could see while Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge. But, Woodward had a plan to re-build the whole squad, starting a team almost from scratch. The team acquired big names like that of Angel Di Maria or Radamel Falcao.

The club’s biggest disappointment would however be their failure to sign Arturo Vidal who ultimately decided to stay with Juventus, maybe for Champions League or maybe just out of loyalty.

Received: £31.2m (€39.4m)

Players who have left the club: 21

The new Manchester United side comes with a fresh breed of players, and Louis van Gaal was given the green signal to clear all the deadwood left in the squad. A total of 21 players had departed from the club, including the five players who were loaned out and other young players.

From veterans like Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra to players who failed to prove their mettle like Danny Welbeck and Shinji Kagawa, the revolution of a whole new Red devil squad is well underway.
