Road runner! The Coyote is after you!

We say goodbye to yet another wonderful year in the World of football. 2014 showcased some amazing performances by teams and individuals with some occasional surprises coming our way.Now it’s time to welcome 2015, a year with a lot of domestic and International football to look forward to. Isn’t that’s a mouth watering prospect? Many of us may have already taken our New Year resolution already, similarly what if your favourite football players took New Year Resolutions? Here is a look at the possible New Year resolutions of 10 football stars.

#10 Marc Bartra Will finally catch up with Bale

Road runner! The Coyote is after you!

Remember the final of the 2014 Copa del Rey? Gareth Bale scored the winner for Real Madrid in an exquisite manner which reminded many of us of the Roadrunner and Coyote cartoon from our childhood days.

Bale made Bartra look like a Sunday league player after running around the Barcelona man and beating him to the ball and scoring the goal. That will surely be a moment Bartra will want to forget and in 2015 he will be looking for an opportunity to recover some lost pride and catch up with Gareth Bale If thats possible.

#9 Marco Reus Will put an end to all the transfer rumors

The most wanted German - Marco Reus!

It is clear as daylight that Marco Reus is an extremely talented footballer and so, any club will be lucky to have him in their team. But where will Reus move to, if he decides to leave Borussia Dortmund? That will be a very difficult question to answer.

The earliest speculation that surfaced was linking him to a move to Bayern Munich. Bayern have openly admitted their interest in yet another Borussia Dortmund player, but it will be interesting to see if Reus will move to Bayern.

Reus was heavily linked to Premier League clubs Liverpool and Arsenal in the summer, and currently he is also being linked to Manchester United and Chelsea as well. Rumors of a swap deal involving Reus and Schurrle are ripe.

Barcelona were also linked with the player, but a transfer ban rules them out completely. Both Madrid clubs have also been heavily linked with Reus and one of these two clubs from Spain’s Capital look like a realistic option for the German.

Even if Reus doesn’t move in January, it is very likely that he will switch clubs in the summer and put an end to all the transfer rumors.

#8 Sergio Aguero Will go a full year without any injuries

I came, I scored and I got injured!

Sergio Aguero started the 2013/14 season in style but a series of injuries crippled his season and forced him to miss several games.

Similarly in the 2014/15 season, Aguero was on fire right from the start and was scoring goals for fun. The Argentine bailed Manchester City out of trouble on several occasions this season, of which the most important one was saving City from the embarrassment of exiting the Champions League in the group stage. But once again, Aguero is currently out with an injury which he suffered against Everton.

The prolific forward is expected to return to playing this month and he will be hoping that he can go through 2015 without another injury.

If it wasnt for these injuries, then Aguero will easily be the guy who can provide a tough competition to Messi and Ronaldo.

#7 Fernando Torres Will score goals regularly

Will Torres find his feet at Atletico Madrid?

It’s amazing how Fernando Torres completed a move to Atletico Madrid despite his poor form for over many years. Maybe this is what a good track record can do for your career.

Torres scored just 20 league goals for Chelsea during his entire stay there and that’s four less than the number of league goals he scored for Liverpool in his debut season with the Reds.

The Spaniard struggled at AC Milan and now returned to his first club Atletico Madrid. Even though the story is romantic, going by the recent performances from Torres, it will be surprising if he manages to score goals regularly. That being said, Torres should vow to score a lot more goals than he has been scoring in the last four years instead of living on his past reputation.

#6 Mario Balotelli Will stop making stupid posts on social networks and score a league goal

Why always you Mario? Why always you?

Super Mario made a move to Liverpool in August and after his move he made some pretty stupid posts on twitter. The first was a post poking fun at Manchester United following their 5-3 defeat to Leicester City, which came back to haunt him following Liverpools defeat against United and the second was an anti racist post that turned out to be racist and handed him a one game ban. Ironic isnt it?

Balotelli has also failed to score a league goal for Liverpool this season and has so far scored just two goals in 16 appearances for Liverpool.

Maybe its high time the Italian stayed clear of social media websites and concentrated on scoring goals.

#5 Pepe Will not head butt, spit or kick a player

Pepe headbutting Muller at the World Cup

Pepe is notorious for his on the field incidents with various players over the years. The Portuguese has been involved with several such incidents while playing for his club and country.

His most famous act from 2014 was at the FIFA World Cup. The Portuguese was involved in a stupid incident with Thomas Muller and got sent off in the opening game of the tournament.

The Real Madrid man was also involved with several such cases throughout his career and some of the things Pepe has done include spitting, kicking an opponent and even walking over an opponent’s hand. There is no doubt that this man’s resolution should be to stop doing all his dirty stuff and concentrate on football, because he is capable of doing that really well.

#4 Zlatan Ibrahimovic Will win the Champions League

Ibrahimovic needs to cast some of his Ibra Kadabra if he hopes to win the Champions League this year

Ibrahimovic oozes class. The Swede is renowned for his classy goals and performances on the pitch as well as his quirky press conferences and interviews.

Ibrahimovic has managed to win domestic titles at almost every club he played for, but the coveted Champions League has eluded him on several occasions. In 2009 he moved to Barcelona from Inter and Inter won the Champions League that season and in the next season he moved from Barcelona to AC Milan and Barcelona won the Champions League!

It will be difficult for him to win the trophy with PSG, but it’s not impossible and so Ibrahimovic will look forward to 2015 with the hope of finally winning the Champions League.

#3 Luis Suarez Will play a full year without getting banned

Will Luis Suarez be hungry to play a full year without getting banned?

Luis Suarez cannot stay out of controversies. The Uruguayan has got banned for several offenses over the years.

In fact during his entire Liverpool career, he never missed a match through injury. All the games he missed were through various suspensions.

Suarez has been banned for biting an opponent on three separate occasions and in addition to this, he has been banned for racist remarks, for showing the finger to opposition fans and for deliberately blocking a shot on goal with his hand, and these are just some of his recent bans.

Suarez sat out for the first few months at Barcelona through suspension and the Uruguayan will be keen to stay out of trouble and not get banned for any reason at least in 2015.

#2 Lionel Messi Will finally win a trophy with Argentina

So close, yet so far, that’s the story of Messi and Argentina at the 2014 World Cup

Messi became the leading goal scorer in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League in 2014. The Argentine was also named the best player at the FIFA World Cup, but he failed to win the prestigious trophy with his nation.

The 27 year old must have grown tired of many fans and pundits alike talking about his failure to win a trophy with Argentina and 2015 could be the year when he puts a lid on the topic. The Copa America will be played this year in Chile and the World Cup finalists will be looking to take the momentum into the tournament.

#1 Cristiano Ronaldo Will help Real Madrid become first club to defend the Champions League title

Can Ronaldo help Real Madrid defend their Champions League title?

No club has successfully defended the Champions League title in the UEFA Champions League era. Clubs like Milan, Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United have reached the Champions League final the year after they won the Champions League, but they have all failed to defend the title.

Real Madrid have looked at their menacing best in 2014 and will be hoping to carry their devastating form into the New Year. The defending European Champions have a good chance of completing a treble in 2015 as well as become the first club to defend their Champions League title.

En route to Real Madrid’s La Decima, Ronaldo became the first player to score in the final of the competition for two different winning sides. He was also the tournament top scorer last season with a record 17 goals. If Ronaldo can emulate his form in the recent years in 2015, then Real Madrid will have a really good chance of defending their Champions League title.
