New Zealand have set up a semi-final clash against South Africa in the ICC World Cup with an easy 143-win against West Indies at Westpac Stadium, Wellington, today. Batting first, the Kiwis, powered by an unbeaten 163-ball 237 from Martin Guptill, posted a mammoth 393 runs on the board; in reply, the Caribbeans could only manage 250 runs before being all out in the 31st over. With 19 scalps to his name, New Zealand’s Trent Boult is now at the top of the wicket-taking charts in the 2015 World Cup. The left-arm pacer picked up the first 4 West Indian wickets – Johnson Charles, Lendl Simmons, Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin – to fall on the day.
Although Chris Gayle was going all guns blazing at the other end, Boult’s unbroken spell of 10-3-44-4 effectively sealed the game in the favour of the home team.

Gayle, who hit 8 sixes today, has also displaced De Villiers from the top spot in the list of all-time leading six hitters in ODI World Cup history. Gayle now has 37 to his name as against De Villiers’ 36.
However, in all probability, this should be Gayle’s last World Cup ODI, and with South Africa set to play New Zealand in the first semi-final of the tournament on Tuesday and with age on his side, it is only a matter of time before De Villiers goes past Gayle.
31 sixes were hit today, which is the highest number of sixes hit in a WC match and the second-highest ever in an ODI. At the top of the pile is the match between India and Australia at Bangalore in 2013, which saw 38 sixes being hit by both the sides.
#3 Highest margin of victory in a knockout match
West Indies were bowled out for 250 in 30.3 overs in a chase of 394. The 143-run victory at Wellington is the highest margin for a knockout victory ever in the history of ODI World Cup, beating Australia’s massive 125-run win against India in the 2003 World Cup final in Johannesburg - a match in which the Sourav Ganguly-led team was all out for 234 in response to Australia's 359.
#4 Martin Guptill\'s 200
Martin Guptill’s unbeaten 163-ball 237 is the second highest individual score in ODI cricket history, beating Virender Sehwag's 219 also coming against the West Indies, and the highest in a World Cup match. This is the sixth time a player has gone past the 200-run mark in ODIs; Rohit Sharma (2), Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Chris Gayle have done it before.
Guptill also became the only player to cross the 150-run mark in an ODI World Cup knockout match. The previous best was Adam Gilchrist’s 149, which came against Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup final at Barbados.

153 runs were scored in the last 10 overs of the New Zealand innings – the highest in this World Cup. South Africa hold the record for the most number of runs ever scored in the last 10 overs of an innings – 163, against West Indies at Johannesburg in January 2015.
