Judging by the replies he recieved it looks like Ibra's tweets are a big hit with his fans. The 32-year-old is showing no signs of stopping so it is safe to say that we can expect a lot more from him in the future. And Zlatan never fails to surprise, if past experiences are anything to go by.

The Manchester United center-back may not be on the pitch much these days but is ever present on Twitter. The 35-year-old tweets about everying in his daily life including updates on training, match predictions Opinions on fellow players and engaging in daily banter with his millions of fans. Ferdinand got into a bit of trouble when he called Chelsea player Ashley Cole a "choc-ice" after the left-back supported John Terry when the latter was under fire for supposedly racially abusing Rio's brother Anton.

Ferdinand has also regularly engaged in a light hearted feud with talk show host and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan who he taunts with the hash tag #Tears4Piers when the Gunners are losing. Morgan makes fun of Ferdinand with the #Tears4Rio hash tag when United are down or when Rio is benched.

Barton has got to be the most followed Championship footballer right now. The Englishman is a sort of controversy magnet and has successfully managed to create a stir on Twitter on a number of occasions. The QPR midfielder often takes to Twitter to pour out his feeling which often involve criticiaing fellow players and offering harsh uncensored opinions on games. BBC labelled him as "a philosophical sportsman to rival Eric Cantona in his heyday" due to his poisonous tweets.

Barton attracted anger from hoardes of teenage girls after he called singer Justin Bieber "a smack addiction waiting to happen". The England international didn't even spare Brazlian sensation Neyar and labelled him the "Justin Bieber of football".

#5 Michael Owen

Twitter Handle: @themichaelowen

No of followers: 2.61M

Although Owen is considered a former footballer I still feel he should be in this list as he is very active on Twiiter. The former England legend tweets about his opinions on teams or players, match predictions, updates on his horses, retweeting followers and occasionally having a Q&A with his fans.

Owen is another player to occasionally clash with Piers Morgan much like former team mate Rio Ferdinand. Morgan taunts Owen by calling him a "Benchwarmer" due to the latters time with Manchester United which was plauged with injury. Owen almost always replies to Morgan with some witty retorts much to the amusement of his followers.

@piersmorgan Crawled out from under your rock have you fat so?
