Korea hand India their 4th consecutive defeat at London

India lost their 4th consecutive match at London Olympics as they went down 1-4 to South Korea.

Korea opened their account when Jong Hyun Jang converted a Penalty Corner in the 7th minute as he flicked it to the top right corner, out of Chetri’s reach. However, 5 minutes later, Sardar Singh sent in a good pass to Dharamvir Singh on the right who then passed the ball in to Gurwinder Singh Chandi who calmly slotted it in to bring up India’s equalizer. The status-quo was maintained at the half-time.

Upon resumption, Korea came out more attacking but India got some chances and fluffed them regularly. Sreejesh replaced Chetri at the goalpost and Chandi made a few scintillating runs in the middle but the scoreboard remained static for close to 25 minutes in the 2nd half. Sreejesh made a few good saves as the Korean forwards did everything but score, much to the relief of the Indians. But the deadlock was broken by Hyun Woo Nam as he scored via Penalty Corner (5th conceded by India) in the 60th minute. With just 10 minutes left in the game, the Indians gave it everything but the woes in front of the goal continued.

With just 1 minute left, it was the Korean captain Seung Il Lee who scored his 4th goal for the national side in 122 appearances. And more importantly, he put the fate of the match beyond doubt as Korea led 3-1.

With the clock striking 0.00, India conceded yet another Penalty Corner and Hyun Woo Nam scored his 2nd goal of the match to end yet another frustrating defeat for the Indian team.
