Novak Djokovic, who just overtook Rafael Nadal in the total number of weeks at #1 at 142 weeks, just added another feat to what has been an amazing season so far. Djokovic was declared as the Laureus Sportsman of the Year for 2015, announced in Shanghai, beating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Rory McIlroy for the honour.

"To be able to be selected from those big names is a truly great achievement that I'm very proud of," Djokovic said through a video message.

The award comes on the back of an exceptional performance by the Serb on the tour last season as he won at Wimbledon, five ATP Masters 1000 titles along with the ATP world tour final.

The Serb boasted a win-loss record of 61-8 last season. He ended the year with the World No. 1 trophy as well.

Novak,27, has been on a roll this season as well, winning the Australian Open title for a record fifth time and a runners-up place in Dubai. He then went on to win the Indian Wells-Miami double, becoming the first tennis player in history to win the coveted double thrice.

"To be able to be selected from those big names is a truly great achievement that I'm very proud of," Djokovic said.

He will now look to perform well in the clay season and will vie for the elusive Roland Garros trophy, the only exception from his career slam trophy cabinet.

Novak also won the award in 2012 on the heels of an exceptional season in 2011.
