World No. 1 Novak Djokovic beat Japan's Kei Nishikori in the finals of the Miami Masters in Key Biscayne, Florida, to take his fourth title of 2016.
The Serb earned his fifth title at the venue and with it, the 63rd ATP title of his career, matching American former World No. 1 Andre Agassi. The win also gave Djokovic his 28th ATP Masters 1000 title.
He broke records following his 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Nishikori, becoming the first man to win back-to-back titles at Indian Wells and Miami for three years running. With the US$1.02 million winners’ cheque in Miami, Djokovic is now at $98 million in all-time earnings, edging out the previous holder of that title - rival Roger Federer, who has earned $97.3mn.
Djokovic has won every title he has played so far save for Dubai, where he retired in the quarter-finals following an eye infection.
His form has been a cause of worry for his opponents, none of whom have been able to trouble him much in the tournaments he has played so far, although he was taxed somewhat by Austrian youngster Dominic Thiem and American pro Bjorn Fratangelo.
He will now go into the French Open - a tournament Djokovic has made the finals at on three occasions, but lost each time, most recently in 2015 to Swiss ace Stan Wawrinka. Djokovic is now only a few wins away from becoming the first ever tennis player with career earnings of $100 million.
