Team India will begin play at Ultimate U23 Championships

India’s Under-23 team at the Watford FC in the UK

India’s Under-23 team travelled to the Ultimate World Championships, which are being held in London, earlier this week and have already gotten off to a good start.

The team, which is a mixed-gender squad selected from all over the country, is due to play Germany this evening, following which they will play the Irish Ultimate team tonight. Comprised of youth from all sections of society, Ultimate is a no-contact sport with minimally complex rules.

The absence of referees in the sport means that players must take all decisions amongst themselves unassisted.

Sportskeeda spoke to the team’s manager Jess Mumford last week ahead of the Championships, and she told us how the team had suffered several issues in the lead-up to the games, especially with visas and paperwork. Ultimate is still not recognised as a sport in India, which makes it difficult for athletes to register for sports visas to travel to the United Kingdom.

We will be bringing readers constant coverage from the championships as the Indian Under-23 team’s game gets on in earnest.
