The conversation began when user @AskWhy05 on X (formerly Twitter) expressed interest in WNBA players having larger financial resources and partnering with men, similar to what some NBA players do.

Recently, WNBA player salaries have been a prominent topic of discussion, especially with the revelation that the rookie salaries for college stars and incoming WNBA rookies, like Caitlin Clark, are less than $100,000 a year. Clark, for example, will earn $338,056 over her four-year rookie contract.

In 2023, the average base salary for WNBA players was $113,295, with the highest salary in the league exceeding $241,000. This is significantly lower than the average NBA player salary, which is $9.7 million.

A'ja Wilson is currently in the second year of a two-year, $398,422 contract with the Aces.
