Caitlin Clark missed her fourth consecutive game with a quad injury. Before tip-off of the Indiana Fever's game against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, the injury lists of both teams were displayed at United Center's jumbotron. The graphic caught the attention of fans as it misspelled Clark's first name as "Caitlyn."
The center-hung scoreboard displayed the two players on the Fever's injury list. Offseason acquisition Sophie Cunningham was also out due to an ankle injury.
Several fans were unhappy about the misspelling of Clark's first name, with some claiming that it might be intentional, considering the rivalry between the two teams.
"This shade is cowardly bc they know they have plausible deniability "it wasn't on purpose" and we know it's not an accident," tweeted one.
Here are other fan reactions:
Chicago guard Moriah Jefferson was the lone player in the Sky's injury report. She was ruled out on Saturday with a lower leg injury.
Fever coach Stephanie White also missed the rematch of their opening-day encounter with the Sky due to personal reasons. Assistant coach Austin Kelly called the shots for Indiana.
What's the latest on Caitlin Clark's injury?
Caitlin Clark reportedly suffered a left quadriceps strain during the Indiana Fever's 90-88 loss to the New York Liberty on May 24.
In the Fever's practice session on Friday, Clark provided an update on her injury and a possible return timeline.
"I'll miss this weekend's game, but after that it's day-by-day and see how I feel and turn to the medical staff and what they think," Clark said. "Feel like I've made a lot of progress, and I feel good. I'm not gonna rush coming back, it's just not worth it. But yeah after this weekend, I'll be re-evaluated, and we'll have a better idea of when I'll return."
What Caitlin Clark said aligns with the team's announcement on May 26 that the reigning Rookie of the Year will be reassessed after two weeks, which would fall on Monday. When asked if she could suit for the Fever's game on Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream, Clark said they don't want to put an exact date and labeled her setback as "day-to-day."
"This type of injury, you don't know," Clark added. "When I wake up, I'll feel different than the day before. We'll see. It could be a possibility, but I could also not be available."
After Indiana's game in Atlanta on Tuesday, the Fever will have a four-day rest and will return to action on June 14 to host the Liberty.
