The Indiana Fever is a professional basketball team playing in the WNBA. Recently, their popularity has skyrocketed with the addition of the number one overall pick of the 2024 WNBA draft, superstar Caitlin Clark. They have been one of the most watched teams in the WNBA and have recorded a sell-out crowd in every game.

Currently, the Fever are in a rebuilding phase, among the main reasons why they got the number one draft pick this season. The Fever already have Aliyah Boston, the reigning Rookie of the Year on their squad, so while there may be growing pains, it can be fair to assume that the Fever will be among the league’s most elite teams in quick time.

Indiana Fever History

The Indiana Fever began as an expansion team in 2000, which coincided with the opening of the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the home arena of the Fever as well as the Pacers, their NBA conglomerate. After being barely decent in their first two seasons, the Fever drafted Tamika Catchings in the 2002 WNBA draft with their first overall pick. Catchings proved to be the franchise cornerstone for the Fever as they built a solid team around her.

In their 24-year existence as a franchise, the Fever have made the Finals thrice in 2009, 2012, and 2015 and won the championship in 2012. In the 2012 WNBA Finals, the Fever beat the Lynx 3-1. In 2024, the Fever hit the draft lottery by drafting Caitlin Clark number one overall in the 2024 WNBA draft. Clark looks to be the savior of a struggling team and as the WNBA gains more eyeballs with the entry of Caitlin Clark, the Fever looks to capitalise on it and be counted among the best teams in the league.

Indiana Fever Owner

The Indiana Fever’s jersey is inspired by their NBA counterpart. Usually, the color for the Pacers as well as the Fever is yellow and blue. More recently, the Fever have adopted a new logo and jersey colorway for their franchise with red and white. This gives the franchise some uniqueness in separating itself from Indiana’s NBA team that plays in the same arena. The Fever wear the red and white jersey for their home games and the blue and yellow jerseys for their away games.

Indiana Fever Retired Jersey

The Indiana Fever have retired only one number in their franchise, Tamika Catchings. One of the legends of the game and a Naismith Hall of Fame inductee, Catchings was drafted in 2002 by the Indiana Fever and spent her entire career in Indiana till 2016.

She helped the Fever win their maiden title and was the WNBA Finals MVP. The 6-foot 1 forward was a five-time Defensive Player of the Year, MVP in 2011 and Rookie of the Year in 2002 and made multiple All-WNBA and All-Defensive first teams. The defensive juggernaut was also a six-time DPOY runner-up, leading the franchise in steals, blocks and rebounds with a gigantic lead. Catchings played for the Fever from 2002 to 2016, was a five-time DPOY, 2011 MVP, and won the Finals MVP in 2012.

Indiana Fever Home Stadium

The Indiana Fever play in the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the home of both the Fever and Pacers. Recently, the Fever has managed to outdo the Pacers in terms of home ticket sales due to the addition of Caitlin Clark. Originally named the Conseco Fieldhouse, the Gainbridge Fieldhouse has a capacity of 19,000. Apart from basketball games, concerts and ice hockey games are also held there from time to time.
