Tyler Reks released from WWE

Tyler Reks left the WWE citing family reasons

A story that has been making the rounds quite a bit in the last couple of days is that WWE Monday Night RAW superstar Tyler Reks being released from the company. Well, we can now confirm this as 100-percent true, as Reks himself confirmed it over his official Twitter account. Unlike most releases, however, this one was mutual, and in fact one that Reks asked for. In regards why he was leaving the company, Reks had the following to say over the micro-blogging social network site:

I realized recently that being a Superstar means sacrificing certain things, including time with my family. As a new father, my heart broke every time I had to leave to go on the road. I didn’t ever want to miss another moment with my daughter, so I made the decision to be a full time dad and hang up my boots.

Fortunately for Reks, he has something to fall back on now that he is done with wrestling. Reks currently owns an internet marketing company that designs websites and optimizes the use of search engines for companies, among other things.

Although Reks hadn’t done much in the company (and I even predicted his release in an earlier article I wrote), it was still somewhat surprising. Reks seemed to be getting somewhat of a pseudo-push with the company, as he and tag team partner Curt Hawkins were being featured more prominently on RAW and Smackdown! the last few months. They originally were featured as henchmen for then-General Manager John Laurinaitis, and have been used as a regular tag team, including a mini-feud with current Smackdown! star Ryback. In addition to this, Hawkins and Reks were in the midst of a gimmick overhaul, recently playing a male stripper tag team, reminiscent of the recent film release Magic Mike.

Unfortunately for Reks fans, it doesn’t look like we’ll be seeing him back in WWE at all. As you can see by his Twitter comments, his main reason for leaving wrestling was to spend time with his family, specifically his young daughter. For people who are big on family, pro wrestling is an extremely difficult lifestyle, and not one that everyone can handle, even those who have never wanted anything else.

While I personally don’t like Reks as a wrestler/wrestling personality (I don’t know him personally, so I can’t say much there), I do not blame him. As the father of a young daughter myself, I know how difficult it can be to be away from your children, especially when they’re so young. You want to be there for all of their early moments and be able to spend as much time as possible with them at that point, because it will be gone before you know it. It’s the same reason why I am being very selective about finding a new job; I want to provide for her, but I also want to be able to spend time with her.

So, having said that, I wish Reks the best of luck in the future, but this was likely the best thing for him and his family. As I said, pro wrestling is not a job for everybody, and it’s probably for the best that he got out now while he still had time.
