Sourav Ganguly, who is hailed as the comeback king, has come back to the TV screens and this time as a quiz master. The Bengali version of the popular game show ‘Kaun banega Crorepati’ started on a Bengali channel last night. The show, named ‘Ke Hobe banglar Kotipati’, is hosted by prolific Indian cricketer and captain Sourav Ganguly. Only Sourav enjoys cult status in Bengal and was a natural choice for the producers for hosting the show. This is the second TV show for Bengal’s favorite son as an anchor.
After Sourav’s retirement from International cricket, he was roped in by another channel to host a quiz show called “Dadagiri unlimited”. Dada’s second innings was a huge success as that show got many awards like the most watched TV show in Bengal. Sourav also got awards for his work on the show. Previous experience as a quiz master will come in handy for Sourav this time.
On the first episode, Sourav appeared with thunderous applause from the studio audience. His lakhs of fans across the country must have switched to Mohua Bangla at 9 pm to watch Sourav Ganguly’s new Avatar. It is certainly a tough job to anchor a show whose original national version is hosted by none other than Amitabh Bachchan. But ‘India’s most successful captain’ loves challenges. He looked confident last night. On the other hand, the participants of the first episode looked very happy to meet their beloved ‘dada’. Where else will you get a chance to win money and also to meet your favorite sports star? And the friends and relatives of the participant may also get a phone call “Namaskar, Ami Sourav Ganguly Bolchi” when the contestant uses the ‘phone of friend’ lifeline. ;)
We have just one question though. He had invited his old IPL team KKR’s owner Shahrukh Khan as a guest in one episode. Will Sourav invite Shahrukh this time too? By the way, just like Shahrukh’s KKR dropped Sourav Ganguly, Kaun Banega Crorepati too had dropped Shahrukh as an anchor after one unsuccessful season. Ouch! :D
