Caribbean Premier League is an annual Twenty20 cricket competition which is held in the Caribbean. It began in 2013 which replaced the Caribbean Twenty20.
It was created under the administration of West Indies Cricket Board and is conducted between six teams owned by different franchises.
The 2018 CPLT20 will be its sixth season which is scheduled to begin from 8 August to 16 September 2018.
The six teams participating in the tournament are Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, St Lucia Stars and Trinbago Knight Riders. A total of 34 matches will be played in the tournament, out of which, 30 will be played at the league stage while four will be knockouts.
This year, the CPL will be conducted at different stadiums situated in seven different countries. With six stadiums situated in the Caribbean, fee of the matches are also scheduled to be played at Lauderhill in the United States.
The stadiums are Sabina Park in Jamaica, Warner Park in Saint Kitts, Darren Sammy Stadium in Saint Lucia, Queen's Park Oval in Trinidad, Brian Lara Stadium in Tobago, Kensington Oval in Barbados Providence Stadium in Guyana and Central Broward Regional Park in the USA.
The title is currently sponsored by Hero MotoCorp and the tournament is officially named the Hero CPL. Caribbean Airlines is the official airline for Hero CPL while Dafabet I'd is the official betting partner. Nestle Trinidad and Tobago Limited have also reaffirmed their partnership with this T20 competition. Yellow Media is the CPL's digital and print advertiser.
Trinbago Knight Riders won the 2017 CPL after they defeated St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by three wickets at the Brian Lara Stadium last year. It was their second title.
Players to look out for
Ranked sixth in the ICC T20 batsmen rankings, Martin Guptill of Barbados Tridents will be one of the top player to watch out for in this season. Chadwick Walton (Guyana), who was last season’s leading run scorer and successful IPL performers Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis of St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will be other batsmen to look for.
Top ranked all rounder Shakib Al Hasan who was also very impressive in this year's IPL will be a key player for Tridents. Andre Russell (Jamaica) and Sunil Narine (Trinbago), another top performers in this IPL will also have also eyes upon them along with Jason Holder (Barbados) who is right now in great form in international cricket.
Last year's top wicket getter Sohail Tanvir (Guyana) will also be among the top bowlers along with his teammate Imran Tahir. St Lucia's D'Arcy Short and Kieron Pollard who failed in this IPL season will also have some point to prove in this CPL season.
