England's EURO squad: Five probable goalkeepers

As the Premier League is in it’s last leg of matches and with the Euro 2012 fast approaching, let us take a look at the probables for playing as England’s goalkeeper.

Certain

Joe Hart - Possibly one of the few players who can perhaps pick themselves for the England Squad. This Manchester City goalie has been fantastic in the goal this season. An understudy to David James and Rob Green at the 2010 World Cup, Hart is an automatic choice as England’s keeper for this years edition of the EURO championship. He has performed consistently for both country and Club this season. Only a freak injury could rob him of his spot from taking part in the EURO 2012.

Chances: 10/10

Probables

Scott Carson - The former Liverpool and West Brom Goalkeeper currently plies his trade for Turkish Outfit Bursaspor. Having already received four caps he is already in the reckoning to fill one of the remaining two goalkeeping spots in the England Lineup. An able goalkeeper, he has spent most of his career in England playing for West Brom. Having once competed with Pepe Reina for the Gk spot at Liverpool this young (by GK standards) goalie has a pretty good chance of making the cut.

Chance:6/10

Robert Green - A much hated figure in the aftermath of the howler against USA in the 2010 FIFA World Cup he has been performing very consistently week in week out for West Ham United. A stable and solid figure in the goal, Green has already won eleven caps for the national team. The former Norwich goalie is among the top contenders for the goalie spot.

Chance:6/10

Ben Foster - With some solid performances for West Bromwich Albion this season the former Manchester United goalkeeper who left the club for Birmingham was involved in a swap loan deal with Boaz Myhill of West Brom once Birmingham made the drop. A brilliant shot-stopper, Ben has received much praise from all quarters. With only five England Caps he looks like a suitable choice in case the England Manager feels that Foster’s Premier League performances trump, Green’s Championship performances or Carson’s Turkish League performances.

Chance:5/10

Bolt from the Blue

David James - At the age of 41 David James is not getting any younger but, with 53 caps to his name he remains the most experienced English Goalkeeper around. A regular England backup, this former Liverpool and Portsmouth man made his World Cup debut at the age of 39, is second to none in terms of experience. He can provide as an able backup but, the fact that he plays for Championship side Bristol City will effect his chances. With 173 clean sheets to his name he holds the record for the most Premier League Clean Sheets.
