“We knew it was coming man!"- When Michael Vick congratulated Lamar Jackson for breaking his astonishing 13-year-long record

Lamar Jackson came into the league with high expectations after being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round in 2018. One player that most fans and NFL personnel compared the former Louisville Cardinals star to was Atlanta Falcons great Michael Vick.

In 2019, Jackson had a career season with the Ravens. Ahead of the Ravens' Week 15 matchup against the New York Jets, Jackson was on the verge of breaking Vick's record for the most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback. Jackson was 23 yards shy of the record, and he rushed for 86 yards in the game, breaking the mark.

After watching his decade-plus record fall, Vick was quick to congratulate Jackson.

"Congratulations Lamar, we knew it was coming man! Like I said, you were the guy for the job. You did it and you did it well. Keep rushing and set the bar high man! It's gonna be an amazing run for you. Appreciate everything you do for the game."

Lamar Jackson would go on to rush for 1,206 yards in 2019, further distancing himself from Michael Vick. Jackson also led the league in rushing yards per attempt that season with 6.9 yards while adding seven touchdowns on the ground.

He finished sixth in rushing yards that season and ninth all-time in Baltimore Ravens history for rushing yards in a single season. In his rookie season in 2018, Jackson rushed for 695 yards and five touchdowns, finishing second on the Ravens.

The Florida native not only broke a long-standing record in the 2019 season, but he also won the league MVP. On top of his all-time rushing mark, he led the Baltimore Ravens to a 13-2 record in 15 games.

However, he was unable to lead the Ravens to playoff success as they were upset by the Tennessee Titans in the divisional round.
