Frances Tiafoe feels spectators should be given the liberty to express themselves during tennis matches like in basketball

Frances Tiafoe has opined that spectators should have the right to express themselves during tennis matches.

There has been a prolonged debate regarding what spectators can and cannot do in a tennis stadium. While a section of fans supports the current culture, several others believe it is wrong to deny spectators their freedom since they have spent their hard-earned money to buy a ticket.

Tiafoe recently joined the debate and made his views clear.

"I think fans should be able to come and go and move around and speak during matches," he said in an interview with Forbes.

An ardent basketball fan, the American said it would be absurd if fans were not allowed to cheer during basketball matches.

"Imagine going to a basketball game and not saying anything," he continued.

Tiafoe, a fan-favorite on tour, also stated that he just tries to be himself on the court and do what's needed to play his best tennis.

"I am getting pumped up and I want the crowd [to get pumped up]. I'm just doing me, just being me. I'm going to do me and do what helps me play my best," he added.

In the same interview, Frances Tiafoe elaborated on his approach to tennis, saying that he will always play with a smile on his face and get the crowd involved.

"I am always going to be out there competing hard with a smile on my face, bringing the crowd into it and making them feel a part of this crazy journey we call life," he said.
"I think they are really enjoying that. I'm not putting that on for people, that is who I am. I love people being happy," he added

Frances Tiafoe will kick off his campaign at the 2023 Miami Open on Friday (March 24). His Round of 64 opponent is yet to be decided.
