Orange Cassidy battled against Chris Jericho in the main event

5 Biggest news stories from AEW Fyter Fest - Night 2 (July 8, 2020)

From Taz re-introducing an old ECW title after 21 years to Orange Cassidy being showcased in the main event against Chris Jericho, Night 2 of AEW Fyter Fest 2020 featured many contrasting moments.

Previously, I thought that Night 2 of Fyter Fest would be more stacked and bigger in terms of content than Night 1, however, both nights of AEW Fyter Fest didn't capture a "big event" aura when compared to, say, this year's Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View.

With that in mind, the conclusion to AEW's two-part Fyter Fest was still decent, but it is apparent that NXT has attracted more attention at the moment.

#5: Nyla Rose teased a new manager for herself in the future

AEW has brought back the ideology of Pro-Wrestling managers in an era where it isn't as common in a major promotion like WWE.

Nyla Rose fought in a handicap match at Night 2 of Fyter Fest. Rose went through the duo of Kenzie Page and Kilynn King quite easily, as one would expect her to. On paper, such a predictable aspect of the show doesn't sound exciting.

However, it was after the match where Nyla Rose left us with a new piece of information for future episodes.

Apparently, managers bring a lot of success to AEW competitors, and the most obvious examples of that are Cody (w/ Arn Anderson) and Brian Cage (w/ Taz). So Rose assured that she would be getting one soon and even though the identity of that manager is being kept secret at the moment, someone like Vickie Guerrero could act as a great mouthpiece for a dominant star such as Nyla Rose.

#4: FTR and The Young Bucks lost in their highly-awaited team-up at AEW Fyter Fest

Not only did this 8-man tag team match include the spot of the night, as you can see in the tweet above, but it is also the most likely contender for the best match at Night 2 of AEW Fyter Fest.

The Young Bucks and FTR teamed up against The Lucha Brothers and The Butcher & The Blade. There were a few hiccups at the beginning of this bout, but ultimately, all teams involved put on an entertaining contest for viewers at home.

Surprisingly, The Bucks and FTR lost due to a slight miscommunication, and instead of relying on old Pro-Wrestling tropes, both AEW teams didn't fight over this matter at all.

It seems like The Young Bucks and FTR have mutual respect for each other despite every AEW fan clamoring for a clash between the two. Surely, all of this tag team drama will result in a match between both teams down the road.

It's also obvious that Kenny Omega & Hangman Page have been facing opponents that won't dethrone AEW's Tag Team Champions anytime soon. FTR has proved itself to be a solid unit in an already stacked division, so a future tag team title shot for them is certainly not out of the question.

#3: Taz re-introduced his old FTW Heavyweight Championship belt and handed it to Brian Cage

Nyla Rose wasn't wrong when she claimed that AEW Superstars with managers have better luck in this industry than those who don't. There are factions, teams, and Superstars with managers all around this promotion, and those alliances come with benefits as well.

Brian Cage just became a new titleholder thanks to his manager, Taz. The FTW Heavyweight Championship was originated in ECW to compensate for storylines that had to be compromised due to injuries, even though it is not an officially sanctioned title by any means. In 2020, Jon Moxley is the AEW World Champion, and due to real-life circumstances, his match against Cage just keeps getting delayed at the moment.

So Taz took the liberty to re-introduce the FTW Heavyweight Championship in a situation like this, which seems like a promising idea when you think about it.

Now that Moxley vs. Cage is scheduled for AEW Fight For The Fallen next week, it will be interesting to see if the FTW Heavyweight Title influences the outcome of their upcoming bout.

#2: Big Swole got suspended by Tony Khan because she kidnapped Dr. Britt Baker

Tony Khan and Big Swole's Twitter thread following Night 2 of AEW Fyter Fest is probably the silliest thing in Pro-Wrestling I have witnessed this week thus far.

Well, maybe Big Swole and Britt Baker's arc on this AEW show was the same in terms of silliness as well.

"Kidnapping" has been a bizarre tradition in Pro-Wrestling history, and AEW is no different. From a personal standpoint, it's not really an issue for me if AEW breaks away from their sports-based presentation every now and then, since we all know that entertainment is an essential ingredient for any mainstream Pro-Wrestling show.

Also, I love what Britt Baker has been doing on the sidelines in recent times, but in this case, the whole "kidnapping" angle was presented comically. So for Tony Khan to suck that energy out of the whole thing by suspending the babyface introduces unnecessary rules to the product.

The suspension added a real-world sense to AEW, but then again, the kayfabe world has seen Superstars committing real-world crimes on a weekly basis, so I don't really know if this was a good idea or not.

#1: Chris Jericho won against Orange Cassidy as the latter established himself as a legit star

The main event of the second night of AEW Fyter Fest was a good conclusion to Chris Jericho and Orange Cassidy's current rivalry, or at least, I'm assuming that both Superstars will move to other feuds from this point onwards.

Even though Le Champion won the match, Cassidy's character has grown over the course of this angle. When he was first introduced, most AEW fans viewed Cassidy as an entertaining gimmick on the sidelines, but last night, Orange Cassidy proved that he can hang with the big boys too.

The man can clearly wrestle in an AEW ring, and the fact that his character holds back all of that talent and only releases it in short bursts makes Cassidy different from the rest of the pack.

Also, Jericho had accomplices (Santana & Ortiz) who made sure that Orange Cassidy wouldn't have an easy journey, so even though Jericho's character needed all that help to succeed, it was "The King of Sloth Style" that cemented himself as an important pillar for the promotion at AEW Fyter Fest.
