5 possibilities for The Revival after their WWE release

The Revival leaving WWE hasn't been a secret. It was fully expected, but perhaps not as early as it came. When Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson were in NXT, they were one of the best tag teams in the world, developing their chemistry over time and being one of the biggest "throwback" tag teams of the modern era.

They truly represented the old school style of tag team wrestling, using a more psychological and physical style to impose their will on teams. Their run didn't end without accolades, however, as The Revival wound up winning the RAW Tag Team Championship twice and the SmackDown Tag Team titles once, along with two reigns as NXT Tag Team Champion - the first team to do so.

During their run, there was always widespread criticism over the way WWE booked the duo, with many fans believing that they deserved a lot better than what they got. For a few years now, there have been rumors of The Revival possibly leaving, but they had a contract extension at one point as well.

They decided to ride out the rest of their contract and while the two were expected to be released separately weeks after WrestleMania 36, the prevailing circumstances likely meant that WWE decided to make the cut early.

With The Revival now gone from WWE, here are a few possibilities for The Top Guys:

#5. A run with Impact Wrestling

Could Impact Wrestling make the big signing?

While Impact Wrestling hasn't had too much momentum recently, they aren't a company to put a bad product. We must remember that both Dawson & Wilder rejected big-money contracts with WWE - seemingly prioritizing creative control and satisfaction over monetary compensation.

While Impact Wrestling won't be able to provide the same kind of contract, they can promise creative control to The Revival to satisfy them for a short run.

#4. A feud with The Young Bucks in AEW

The inevitable?

This feels like the most likely option. The Young Bucks themselves tweeted out saying that they fully expect a match against The Revival in the future. With The Revival gone from WWE, there's little doubt that AEW will wait to snatch The Revival from other wrestling promoters.

The dream match, of course, is against The Young Bucks and we expect the two to eventually meet in the ring to have a tag team classic. The entire "FTR" term ("F*** The Revival" and also "Forever The Revival") brewed a feud between the two online.

We've seen moments of brilliance from The Revival, but we believe that they've held back on what they're capable of due to years of creative dissatisfaction. All it takes is one great match to establish their name and there's no doubt that a match against The Revival would be a huge draw for the next major AEW PPV.

We would be disappointed if this didn't happen and we could see this being the next major direction if they sign with AEW.

#3. A long break and a run in the indies

Could The Revival make a run in the independent scene

The Revival are a WWE-created team, but the duo will get work wherever they may go. Given the circumstances and outbreak of COVID-19, the independent wrestling scene has seemingly been put to a halt due to the ban on public gatherings and the social distancing protocol.

Given that The Revival had good WWE contracts with a lot of money earned, we wouldn't be surprised if they sat out for a few months before returning to the independent scene. The reality is that former WWE superstars can make a great living on the independent scene nowadays. While that'll take a while to recover, the two might decide to have a test run on the independent scene to see how it goes and simply get back in the ring.

There certainly won't be a shortage of work, but we imagine that it's going to be a lot harder. It would be a good start for the team in their life outside WWE.

#2. An NJPW run

Is this the right place for The Revival?

The Revival would fit in perfectly with New Japan Pro Wrestling. Given that the company focuses heavily on the in-ring content, there's no doubt that they could have great matches. NJPW has a history of great tag team wrestling and if The Revival wants to have the best matches possible - then Japan is where they need to go.

It doesn't even need to be a long run with the company, but if NJPW offers a great contract with a satisfying schedule, we don't see any reason why The Revival shouldn't take it. Many people think that AEW is the best destination for The Revival post-WWE, but despite the seemingly inevitable jump to Cody Rhodes' promotion, NJPW could be the best place for The Revival to jump ship too after a while.

It would be exciting to see them wrestle some of Japan's top teams and it would also serve as a great part in growing their careers. We could see a whole different side to them that we've never seen before.

#1. Joining MJF and Arn Anderson to form a new faction

MJF and Wardlow

While a feud against The Young Bucks seems inevitable, jumping right into it without much of a build could be a bit of a waste and an easy cash-grab. However, a more promising creative direction would be joining MJF and Arn Anderson to form a new faction in AEW.

Arn Anderson is currently Cody Rhodes' head coach, but they teased a heel turn for the legend in MJF's steel cage match against Wardlow. It seems inevitable that at some point, Anderson will turn on Rhodes and he could simply be biding his time until the arrival of The Revival.

While they would likely take the name "Shatter Machine" as WWE has the trademark for "The Revival", we wouldn't be surprised to see them join MJF and Arn Anderson in an AEW version of The Four Horsemen.

We must remember that Dusty Rhodes and Arn Anderson were mortal enemies, which would make it great for the storyline if The Revival came in and joined.
