Will WWE take their chances with this WrestleMania match?

WrestleMania 36: 5 reasons why WWE must allow AJ Styles to beat The Undertaker

WWE legend The Undertaker is set to make an appearance at WrestleMania 36. In a pay-per-view that has been synonymous with his iconic streak, The Phenom is gearing up to take on AJ Styles in a boneyard match. The Undertaker started feuding with Styles earlier last month and the two are now set to lock horns at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’.

Although The Undertaker vs AJ Styles makes for an interesting feud, the build-up to their final encounter has not been the best that it could be. A major reason behind the same is the fact that this rivalry was scheduled to begin a lot earlier but those plans were derailed after Styles sustained an injury during Royal Rumble 2020.

All said and done, ‘Taker and Styles have unsurprisingly managed to gain attention from the WWE Universe. With this year’s WrestleMania struggling against a lot of issues outside the ring, it is quite possible for us to see Styles beating ‘Taker at the PPV in order to make the show memorable – something that will prove to be better for the business in the near future. In this list, we will take a look at five reasons why the creative must have The Undertaker lose against AJ Styles.

#5 AJ Styles can retire The Undertaker this year

Although The Undertaker initiated the feud with Styles, it was the ‘Phenomenal One’ who was seen adding more intensity to their rivalry. Styles went as far as calling out The Deadman for not deserving a match at WrestleMania anymore. He even went on to blame his wife, Michelle McCool for forcing her husband to compete inside the squared circle.

To say that these statements have angered Undertaker will be an understatement. The Phenom looks keen on silencing Styles after their Boneyard match, scheduled to take place at WrestleMania. Both Styles and ‘Taker have had an illustrious career. Given the intensity of this match, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Styles adding the ‘retirement’ stipulation to this match on tonight’s episode of RAW.

Styles is one of the few Superstars currently working in WWE who can prove to be a credible opponent for The Undertaker in the latter’s retirement match. While it would make sense for The Deadman to hang his boots and enjoy his well-deserved time away from the hectic pro-wrestling business, all signs right now are indicating the possibility of him beating the leader of The O.C.

#4 To give AJ Styles and The O.C. a push on RAW

The O.C. deserve better than their current position on the red brand

The feud between The Undertaker and AJ Styles have also seen the latter’s friends being heavily involved. Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were the ones who attacked Rey Mysterio at the WWE Super ShowDown in order to keep him out of the gauntlet match for the Tuwaiq trophy. Soon after that, they were dismantled by The Undertaker who then proceeded towards the ring and pinned Styles to win the trophy at the PPV.

A few weeks later, we once again saw The Undertaker manhandling Gallows and Anderson during the contract signing. The entire course of this action has allowed WWE to establish the fact that the Deadman can still take on the powerful forces of the WWE roster. However, things could still change if all three of them ganged up against the legendary Superstar.

Seeking the help of The O.C. members to win a crucial match won’t be a new move for Styles. In this case, however, the impact of a victory over Undertaker at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ will help WWE in creating an organic push for the stable. They have huge potential and would be the best option to compete against The Undisputed Era who will inevitably make their main roster debut soon. WWE have a good opportunity in their hands to add more credibility to The O.C. on the red brand.

#3 Leaves room for extending the feud

They have been good and deserve an extended storyline

It’s been widely believed that AJ Styles’ provocation will cause The Undertaker to change his gimmick and return for a final run with WWE. While it’s being believed that The Phenom will win his match against the ‘Phenomenal One’ after introducing his new gimmick, the creative still have an option to go about this entire feud in a slightly different manner.

Styles should beat The Undertaker so that the latter is irked enough to change his character. That will have more impact as compared to a shift in gimmick after a victory. Once The Undertaker has suffered a loss at the hands of someone who has dared to go personal with him, it will be a valid motivation for him to go back and prepare for a massive return.

This, in turn, will keep the WWE universe hooked onto their feud. In the absence of The Undertaker, WWE can have Styles claiming the glory of that by constantly reminding the fans about how he beat a legend at the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’. Finally, when he grows comfortable with his progress on the red brand following the ‘Showcase of Immortals’, The Undertaker can return and reignite his feud with the leader of The O.C.

It would make for a more intense rivalry with good storytelling while accounting for a perfect retirement feud with respect to The Undertaker.

#2 To help establish AJ Styles as a dominant heel

AJ Styles can work well as both a babyface and a heel

Do you remember the WWE Universe’s reaction to Roman Reigns on SmackDown after WrestleMania 33? That was the best chance that WWE should have capitalized on with a heel turn of the Big Dog. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen and we all know how things got worse for Reigns on the main roster. He was winning all his matches but the crowd was still against him.

The fact is that beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania is bound to attract heat from the fans – something that AJ Styles needs right now. He has done an excellent job as a heel. But he can be one of the most vicious heels in WWE today just like he has done in the past. A WrestleMania victory over ‘Taker will naturally prompt Styles to brag more and more about his potential which will ultimately see the crowd sympathizing with The Undertaker during a proper retirement feud.

Following that, even if ‘Taker is retired at the hands of the ‘Phenomenal One’, the fans will be grateful for being able to see the latter’s career meeting a justified conclusion. However, that won’t be possible if Styles isn’t the kind of heel that has nothing to add to the storyline.

#1 AJ Styles is the ideal WrestleMania opponent for The Undertaker

No other WWE Superstar can do a better job than AJ Styles

One of the biggest reasons why AJ Styles is the one facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania is his dependable in-ring skills. It’s a known fact that The Undertaker cannot move inside the ring as he used to and no one blames him for that. Despite that, we have seen The Phenom deliver better matches in his last few appearances.

If you take a closer look at all the recent matches in which The Undertaker looks even remotely his old self, you’ll notice that he is sharing the ring with some of the best names in the pro-wrestling business. Similarly, Styles is going to be the one who can be trusted to carry The Undertaker during the match without showing his opponent in a bad light.

He is a safe worker who can be careful about the limitations that the time has posed on The Deadman and deliver a compelling storyline. More notably, this sort of response from the ‘Phenomenal One’ is not limited to a single altercation. Styles would be a great choice to be the last Superstar that The Undertaker feuds with before bidding adieu to WWE. And all of that can start with something as simple as the ‘Phenomenal One’ beating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 36.
