Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Aug 2 (IANS) India won four medals, including a gold, at the Asian Grand Prix Archery Championship which concluded here Friday.

The junior Compound men’s trio — Y. Charan Reddy, Ramakanta Sharma and Ravi Sharma — won the team gold while the Compound mixed team (Charan and Mihu Maselo) bagged the silver.

The Compound women’s team comprising Mihu, Dudhwal Swati and Yumi Sorang won the team bronze while Charan shone again by winning the bronze in the Compound men’s individual event.

However, India missed out on two individual bronze medals — in Recurve men and Compound women’s categories — when Binod Swansi and Mihu lost their bronze medal matches.

Archery Association of India (AAI) president Vijay Kumar Malhotra congratulated the contingent for winning the medals during the July 27-Aug 2 tourney.

“It is for the first time in the history of Indian archery when Compound archers have won four medals in one international competition. It is a good indication as second and third line of our archers are also performing well in first tournaments of their career and keeping pace with senior archers who recently won one gold and two bronze medals in the World Cup at Medellin (Columbia),” said Malhotra.

The next task for the juniors will be the Youth World Archery Championship scheduled to be held at Wuxi (China) Oct 13-20.
