Beant Singh(behind) won the gold medal

India’s Beant Singh has won the Gold medal in the 800m category at the World School Championships in athletics, that is currently being played in Wuhan, China. The 16-year-old-runner clocked a timing of 1:52.50 to finish on top of the podium.

This is Beant’s second gold medal in as many months, following his top-of-the-podium finish at the Asia Youth Athletics Championships in Doha, with a timing of 1:52.26 last month. The runner had also clinched the silver medal in the National Open Athletics Championships in 2014. He finished that race with a timing of 1:51.08, thereby creating a new national record in the youth category.

This performance will certainly come as a shot in the arm for Beant, ahead of the World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia, which is scheduled to be held between the 15th and 19th July.

Sportskeeda have been at the forefront, in trying to help the young athlete realise his and the nation’s dreams, by running a campaign for him to help him bring glory for India at the World Youth Championships and the Youth Commonwealth Games in Samoa in September.
