It is Independence Day back home in India and this will certainly be on the athletes’ minds as they move on to yet another day in Rio 2016. After a disappointing exit by the dependable Saina Nehwal, the contingent is left with very few options to mount a sustainable medal challenge. So far, the shooting contingent has been a massive disappointment.

Day 10 of the Olympics gives us a whole lot of athletics to watch. India does not feature in too many competitions. However, we will still see history being made as Lalita Babar becomes the second Indian woman since PT Usha to qualify for an Olympic race final. She will be competing in the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase Final after finishing 6th in the qualifying rounds.

Renjith Maheshwary will feature in the Men’s Triple Jump event while Srabani Nanda will make an appearance as a participant in the Women’s 200m race. The draws for her race have not been officially announced yet and as such it is unclear as to which heat she will be competing in.

Seema Punia will be representing the country in Discus Throw which takes place early morning on 16 August in Indian Time.

Vikas Krishan has, so far, been quite good for India and he has kept India’s boxing challenge alive in the tournament. He will be competing in the quarterfinals of his category on this day. All in all, Day 10 looks promising. It is not quite action packed but it suffices to say that we have some strong representation in some of the events.

Note: All matches will be telecast Live on Star Sports and are available for live-streaming on hotstar.com. Matches involving Indians will also be available on DD National.
